Any Learning Resources That Focus On AESTHETICS?

Hey guys,

Semi new to the forum so I figured I might as well post this in here (can’t think of any better places to put it).

What I was wondering is, are there any GOOD web design tutorials out there (on say udemy or learnable) that focus on the AESTHETIC side of web design?

Basically every tutorial I’ve ever found has focused on the technical aspect of design; i.e., HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP.

That’s all well and good, and my HTML and CSS skills are (technically speaking) half decent by now…

… The only thing is, my websites still come out looking a little bit weird.

There’s just something, I dunno, not quite normal about them, in terms of style or something like that.

Does anybody here know of any tutorials (free or paid) that teach these stylistic elements of web design?

You’re looking for “UX Training”. I don’t know of any off the top of my head, so if you find some please share.

Also, http://alistapart.com is very good to keep up on trends. Its very influential in design, the kind of place that if they said green text is the best color, you better bet within the next few weeks you’ll start seeing tons of sites using green text.

CSS Tricks is very good similar site. (don’t remember the URL)

I don’t know about tutorials, but there are several SitePoint books (available from Learnable) which fit the bill:

Dont confuse User Experience ( functionality, ease of use) with ART DIRECTION and GRAPHIC DESIGN, ICONOGRAOPHY AND TYPOGRAPHY ( perhaps even ILLUSTRATION).

Honestly, it’s best if you seek those disciplines specifically, keeping in mind your end goal, web design. E.G.: good typography is good typography, but you have to know the limitations of your media and your coding ability.
