Any insight on VPS.NET (or other cloud hosts)

Hello,

I’m doing some research on cloud-based hosts and VPS.NET is looking pretty good.

Does anyone have any information or experience with this host?

Does anyone know any other cloud hosts that they recommend (going more for reliability and speed rather than cost)?

Thanks.

I have tired VPS.NET and it was ok , but it can get little bit expensive if you do not end up using all of the included bandwidth.

I currently host few websites with gigenetcloud.com which is another cloud server host and they are also decent , little bit cheaper then vps.net.

Also another one worth looking into is stormondemand.com

linode, slicehost, softlayer, amazon are all great.
vps.net are a uk2 company whom I (and a lot of other people) don’t rate very highly.

They did have a deserved bad reputation that unfortunately still hangs over them, over the past couple of years Ditlev has turned UK2 around considerably and taken on many many more staff. People I know who use them now report a very different tale to what it would have been a couple of years ago.

Thanks everyone. We’re now looking at Rackspace Cloud. I know they are a bit more expensive then some of the others out there, but the reliability is something we really need.

Does anyone have any insight on them?

Hi Everyone,

I’m the Chief Evangelist at VPS.NET, and just now stumbled across this thread. I’d first like to apologize for being a little late to the party.

Sorry you had a bad experience with UK2; was there a specific brand/time period? If it was anything recent, I would like to review your account and get your feedback and discuss what went wrong. Please feel free to contact me at terry@vps.net, if you’d like.

There’s definitely been some dramatic changes that have taken place. I believe only 9 members of our team since Ditlev took over remain. Everyone else is new to the company, and that’s saying something, as we’re near 200 employees in 3 different locations.

When it comes to a Cloud VPS, the things you pay for are flexibility and ability to scale up (and hopefully to scale down) the service. I have reviewed the offerings of some of the vps providers mentioned above and I should say that pricing looks reasonable.
