I’m curious to see more portfolios from fine artists, as I’m redeveloping mine. I guess I specify “fine artist” because I feel it tends to differ from those more focused on graphic design. Unless that’s my philosophy. Any opinions on that?
As I’m putting mine together I’m hesitant to add too much contemporary design flourishes. I’m thinking the portfolio needs to look like an stoic gallery setting but… maybe that just isn’t necessarily the correct idea.
There are many cool portfolios out there. If it’s an artist portfolio, you can break free your creativity and design it however artistic you want without caring a lot for the usability conventions. Although you will still have to pay some attention to usability, it can be minimal.
I prefer browsing CSS gallery websites as they usually have a lot of portfolios posted. Browse few of the galleries in this list: http://www.thecssgallerylist.com/
Why don’t you google for your desired portfolios? I am sure you will get nice ones. Many contact numbers of fine artists are also mentioned in some good sites.
I don’t think I really agree with that. If the website itself IS the portfolio, then yes. Otherwise if you’re trying to show a real collection of work as a set of images, having a website cluttered with additional elements, graphics and design elements that potentially distract from viewing every individual image is not a great idea.
