Alternative for sliders?

Personally I started to dislike slider because it seems that visitors dont pay too much attention to sliders, but again without slider there is big space missing and the website doesnt look the same. There are many articles where it says that sliders are bad for SEO. So what could be an alternatiev for slider? How to fill that space?

IMHO, sliders are what happens when a client can’t/doesnt want to figure out what content goes where. it’s essentially “spitballing points” until the visitor happens to spot something he or she likes, assuming of course visitor is patient enough to sit/click throught the slides. Sliders do help maintain aesthetics when faced with ‘main content ambiguity’.

That being said you have 3 choices.

  1. make a portal, mere links ( maybe a VERY brief explanation of ALL the possible content that would have been showcased with the slider) . Aesthetically this might be served with umbrella image which encompasses all the topics /or something vague and general with the same effect

  2. Assuming you dont have a large # of slides, you could do a “grid” showing all slides at once

  3. You could select the single most relevant slide (or most relevant to that page).

Again, it’s really a matter of discipline and choice, but I do hope that helps

It depends what kind of content your website is serving. One site I like in particular is hypable.com which has a big frontpage with lots of images linking to new content that they produce; the newest and most popular topics are displayed at the top and the older stuff slowly gets bumped down. It can be a little messy on the eye, but maybe something smaller/simpler like that will work for you.

Instead of using sliders you can place the constant advertising picture in your page. Its more effective to fill your empty place and as well as it get register in users mind.
