Alternate sources of income

Hey guys. I do freelance web design, mainly wordpress stuff for small businesses locally on the east coast of the US. I have a steady flow of work, nothing to complain about. However I find myself getting bored doing the same type of projects over and over. I would like to start using my web design/coding skills to generate revenue with my own websites…only problem is I don’t know what to go after. I know there’s some stuff that can be done with amazon affiliate marketing, making niche sites running adsense ads, selling themes on themeforest.

What other suggestions are out there for someone who can easily put together good websites?

Yes, you could certainly consider creating some sites, and using them to generate revenue via affiliate marketing and/or pay-per-click ads (PPC). You might find it a useful back-burner activity: something to do when you have a lull in your normal work, and which will generate a bit of extra income.

Your biggest problem will be coming up with some suitable topics for your sites. You want something that will be of interest to a large number of potential visitors, but not something that has already been done to death by other websites. I wish I could suggest something (but, if I could, I would probably be doing them myself).

If you have any specific questions about affiliate schemes (such as Amazon) or PPC (such as Google AdSense), there are plenty of people here who can answer them. You might find this article useful for some background information: Google AdSense: A beginner’s guide.
