Advice needed (entry level IT jobs)

I am at the University of Louisville, majoring in Computer Information Systems. I know there are a broad range of jobs available with-in IT. Does anybody have any sort of advice on jobs?

A family friend living in Atlanta works for HP, and he is a project manager. His job has a lot of travel, but tells me the pay, benefits, and hours are worth it (makes over $100k).

I assume working for a company like HP or Accenture is a decent path, and one that allows me to enter Corporate America, which I assume is a promising thing.

But anybody with any other advice, please share!

What I am trying to find out here, is what sort of entry-level jobs are available, with these big IT firms? (HP, Accenture, Fujitsu Deliotte etc. etc.) I have heard that lot of these jobs require extensive weekly travel to-and-from client sites.

I assume those large firms hire a lot of freshly minted college grads, but I am assuming this. I have read numerous blogs and reviews online, but I am skeptical because I do not know the person behind the computer screen. They could be bad-mouthing or hyping up a company for a multitude of reasons.

Large financial institutions and insurance companies have large IT departments. Those don’t usually require much travel, as they are primarily in-house positions.

Is there a particular area of IT you’re interested in? Help desk, server management, database management, network management, application management, application development…

Look up MANTECH or some of the contractors out here in afghanistan, if you aren’t worried about coming out here you can make over 200k doing IT and IS stuff, its eassssy, Im not actually a contractor over here(ARMY) but my roomate works for MANTECH and he makes alottttttt

I’m with Force Flow, would need to know which area you’re interested in. There’s a huge difference between, for example, corporate rat-race IT and things like web development gigs.

It’s one way, but it’s not the only way. A lot of graduates are choosing to join startups lately, as there is more of a talent market for these smaller companies.

I’d really focus on finding a niche you like and excel at. Money will come. Presuming you don’t go get facial tattoos and felonies in the process you can join corporate america anytime you’d like.
