after 10 days of not using skyscraper adsense on 2 of my sites, i took it off, then later i added only a 468 on one of my less hit sites, now it’s makin 2.43 a day… that;s good for me, and one tiny toon site.
I’m not using them anymore do to the fact they just arent making me money anymore. adsense is infinitely over rated.
odd. I’m seeing only a slight drop in CTR
It’s interesting that some companies seem to be having a hard time making things work right now. There’s a TON of business out there.
Our CPMs have been steadily rising for the past 6 months.
I wonder if the search market including AdSense is getting tapped out and more advertisers might be moving back to “traditional” online ads?
Seems to be the case from where I sit.

yes, yes, yes, my adsense is down 50% this month:( Also, it is showing A LOT of free ads
My income this month is 5 times more then 2 months ago with about the same traffic. Yesterday i had 60% more then the day before yesterday
Maybe you drained the advertisers accounts in the first week
Can you explain this. I use a lot of skyscrapers at my site, though not exclusively. Are other layouts more effective?
thanks, gail
Umm this month has started well . I don’t make much a month however it reached the payout in first 10 days.
But these days rates dropped.
not good
For me its way down because on the main page, its showing nothing besides defaults.
I was doing around 35 a day now im at 12 … hope things will go to normal
I’ve only been using Adsense since Oct24th. But my earnings have remained at a very regular level throughout.
With some people noticing no change at all and yet others noticing up to a 90% decrease in earnings, it seems like some topic areas have been hit more harshly than others?
Skyscraper performs better than banners and leaderboard because google sort advertisers based on their bidding price (from higher to lower). So, The highest bidder will get the first place and the 2nd will get the 2nd and so on.
In the Skyscraper format, people will see ads on top first (highest bidders) and so they will get better chance to be clicked.
In banners and leader boards, and due to the horizontal nature of the AD, Google will put the highest bidder on the left and others right to him, so moving from left to right will cause decrease in earnings per click.
Visitors will see the 4 or two ads on the banner and leaderboard at the same time (no need for scrolling as they do with the skyscraper). So the eanings will get lower as low bidders will often get clicked.
I noticed that low paying advertisers appear more frequently than before in the past two days which may explain the low earnings.
Interesting. I hadn’t realised that google organizes the sequence of ads according to the bid price.
I’m using the skyscraper and I’m seeing only defaults and my CTR has dropped alot because they are serving only defaults to me now.
That is a good point, however, isn’t it agreed that leaderboard get more clicks because they are the most visable ads?
So therefore it should even it out?
ie. skyscrapers get higher earning clicks, but leaderboard get more clicks, more often.
I think it depends on the visitors, if your visitors always click more than ad then leader board will generate more revenue, but if the visitors only visit one ad (curious visitors want to check what is behind the text) then the vertical ad will perform better.
I am using standard banner on my sports site but I cleared the borders and it was working well. On my new site (hosting directory) I am using the leaderboard as I am expecting the visitors to be targetted. So I am trying to give them more variety. On the contrary, most of ads on my sports site are not so well targetted so I limit them to two ads per page (using banner) as most of visitors click for curiousity sake. This way, the top two bidders only appear and so I can earn more per click. It was working well till two days ago where my click through ratio got down for no reason and also the cost per click was lower than expected.
About how google sort ads, I just noticed when I make a search on google, ads appear in a skyscraper format and the 1st place is always for the top bidder. When I saw ads on websites running adsense, I noticed that google places the top bidder on top (same as on Search engine ads) and so on…
i agree, my adsense is terrible now. I got 112 clicks yesterday and my total was under $20
I hate that they are throwing me defaults!!
