Adobe Illustrator help!

hey folks,
i am making a graphical sitemap of a web app in AI. i did slicing and i saved the file as a ai on top of the old one. now this morning when i open the file. the sliced layers are there but not the shapes, paths or any other artwork layers. can anyone tell me what happen. i spend 2 days working on it :frowning:

OK, so are there layers? In doing the slices did you delete what was there before? I think more info about what you did is needed.

This is where I find TimeMachine on the Mac really handy. You can scroll through past versions of a file. I know it’s for babies, but it’s still pretty cool.

Hmm, not sure what you mean by that. Did you save as a different file?

Anyway, all I can think of is to check in the Layers palette that the other layers aren’t turned off (there should be an eye icon next to layers you want to see).

i did saved it with same name. meaning overwrite :frowning:

I hope your files are safe, it sucks when you lose work like that. Easy to do when working with vectors and multiple file exports.

Call me a HDD hog but I always save multiple versions of the file at key points. If I need a flattened version I’ll “Save As”. I do hope you recover your layers if in doubt leave the file open so you can at least Undo if you need to. It is easy to clean up and delete files at the end of a job, it isn’t quite so easy to replace work that you’ve done but saved over.
