Access Top Menu in OS-X?

How can I access the Top Menu in OS-X strictly using the keyboard?

There is some key combination that makes a drop-down menu appear underneath the “Apple” icon in the Top Menu.

Also, how can I define my own key-combo OS-X shortcuts to quickly navigate through OS-X Finder and apps like FireFox?

Don’t forget dear old Google when you have questions like this. The first link I came across was this, which offers a lot:

I did Google!

I also looked at the page you posted.

And I don’t know what I am looking for is called, and I couldn’t find it on that page.

(When I first got my MacBook I spent a day or two researching things like this and put them into a really cool spreadsheet, but I can’t find it, and it is probably back home in Arizona…) sigh

Jeesh, I just scanned down that page for a few seconds and found ‘Control-F2: Move focus to the menu bar’. From there it’s just arrow keys to move around and Return to select. I’m no more experienced at this stuff than you are. I just suggested using google because there is so much info online, and you can get answers in seconds rather that wait hours for someone to answer in a forum. You are capable of more than you think.

Geesh, I didn’t see that when I scanned the whole page earlier.

And, geesh, I just tried it and it doesn’t work…

Could there be a Preferences setting I set that is making F2 behave a different way?

And I did look, but like I said I wasn’t sure what I wanted was called and even when it was there, I missed it because I’m human…

It appears that Macs have some issues with this…

I got it working, but I am also having another similar “bug” with TextEdit not working right…

If on a laptop, you my need to click fn + control + F2. I’ll try it out on my old MacBook later on.

The link I tried above worked.

And this fixed my not being able to cycle through choices when closing TextEdit…
