Abreviations

i’m noticing google is getting into abbreviation keywords for example NYC it knows its New York City or bklyn is Brooklyn, it can even expand to as much as mistypes broklyn to Brooklyn and it’ll highlight the keyword Brooklyn

My question is if i purchasse a domain like bklynskateshop.com

does the abbreviated word weight as much as the non-abbreviated word?
Brooklyn vs bklyn

brooklynskateshop.com | Brooklyn’s #1 Skate shop selling all major brands
bklynskateshop.com | Brooklyn’s #1 Skate shop selling all major brands

what are your thoughts; has anyone experimented with it.

If you type ‘bklyn’, Google can assume you probably mean ‘Brooklyn’ and will find pages that are about ‘Brooklyn’, but it will also show pages about ‘bklyn’ as it is an exact match.

If you type ‘Brooklyn’, Google can assume you probably mean ‘Brooklyn’ and will find pages that are about ‘Brooklyn’. It is unlikely to show those about ‘bklyn’ unless the context and inbound links make it clear that the site is about Brooklyn.

You’re always better getting your spelling right! That said, domain names don’t have to be exact matches, so if you think it will be easier to market an abbreviated name, go with that.
