A single webhosting account split for multiple domains -- possible?

probably not quite the right place to ask this but close enough and it’s following-on-from/in-connection-to my previous green hosting question…

is it possible to take out a hosting account, the usual shared hosting account offered by many hosting companies, and use that one account for multiple domains somehow?

thanks.

You can add multiple domains to your shared account through ‘add-on domains’ option. Most of the host allow add-on domains and cPanel has an option for this.

Good luck.

hmm, can’t see anything like that on either of my two different hosting accounts… i’ll email them.

just to reiterate/clarify what i’m asking: one hosting account, with two (or more) different domain names pointing to it, and accesses to those two different domain names result in two different webpages (therefore two different websites) – from the user’s points of views, two totally different websites.

thanks.

They might not be offering this. Please check their package details on their wensites for more info.

yes, it is very much clear

Good luck

no, the one i just emailed don’t at the moment (“Not at this time although we will be offering multi-domain hosting in the next few months.”) but i was asking that hosting company just as a tester, which was a bit of a waste of time as i now understand this is something which will vary from one hosting company to another. so i’ve now asked the one i’m actually interested in. i didn’t think it’d be possible at all before i asked this on here.

good, just thought i might not have been clear.

ok, thanks.

That should be mutiply domain name web hosting account.I do not see any problem here. Just do your best to find out that.
Good luck

I believe you just need upgrade you web hosting plan.

Some of the hosting providers setup limits on the number of domains you can host with the hosting plans. It might be possible that your hosting provider has done the same. Better to contact them and ask about the number of domains you can host with the hosting plan you have

On my hosting you can setup unlimited domains but the problem is if you need SSL on those domains you can not do it because the hosting account can only have 1 IP.

That’s usually one of the main restrictions with shared hosting. If you upgrade to reseller hosting, a VPS, dedicated hosting or co-location then tat restriction would no longer apply.

It is possible depending on the system the webhosting company uses.

Usually they will create you a “Client” account and there you can add individual domain names. Each with his own folder structure and ftp access, and different cgi/php settings.

Yai…you can add…more domains…either by addon domains…if not…than you can point your domain dns A record to your hosting directory…i hope this helped.

Majority of the web hosts do allow hosting multiple domains as add-on domains on shared hosting. An add-on domain is added on top of your main domain. It creates a sub directory within your main web hosting directory but can show a different website. You can manage add-on domains through the main control panel but these would appear as separate websites to the visitors.
