A question about tables

I create a table with two cells. Each cell is separated by a cellspacing of 2. In one of the cells I would like to put an image and next to it some copy. I would like both the image and the copy to align on the top. It’s not working that way. The copy is next to the image but aligning on the bottom. The second cell with a checkmark is working fine.

Can someone please help me figure out what I am doing wrong in the code?

Thank you!

<table width=“526” bgcolor=“#ffffff” cellspacing=“3” cellpadding=“0” align=“center” border=“0”>
<tr><td bgcolor=“#f2ecc0” valign=“top” align="left"style= “padding-left:20px; padding-right:20px; padding-top:5px; padding-bottom:5px; color:#000000; padding-left:20px; padding-right:20px; padding-top:5px; padding-bottom:5px; color:#000000; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold; font-size:12px;”> <img src=“http://meryl.com/crainsemail/img/bol.gif” alt=“Book of Lists” width=“163” height=“90” border=“0”>Annual Book of Lists – <br> <span style= “font-family:‘Times New Roman’, Times, serif; font-weight:normal”>
Digital digest of 1,300 plus business leads to help you grow your business</span></td>

<td width=“20%” bgcolor=“#f2ecc0” valign=“center” align=“center”> <img src=“http://meryl.com/crainsemail/img/check.gif” alt=“checkmark” width=“24” height=“21” border=“0”></td></tr></table>

You could try adding style="vertical-align: middle;" to the image, but that will only work for the first line of text. I’m not sure what the image looks like, so can’t tell if that will help or not. If not, a different layout approach might be needed.
