Editor's Roundup
Today's World Wide
Web is all about interactivity and collaboration. Collaboration on the Web
can range from attending a web development conference to linking to a
partner's web site; from giving or seeking help and advice in a forum to
networking with peers in a social group. This month, the Community
Crier investigates several collaboration and interactivity
alternatives.
In Around
the Town you'll find a chance at a free ticket to Web Directions South,
as well as several blog articles on different types of collaboration. A
flashy tutorial helps you increase interactivity in your web
applications and SitePoint offers a free Firefox extension that helps make
coding your web site easier.
Pathfinders
explores the SitePoint Content Forums with a focus on multimedia for your
web sites.
Yours truly virtually traveled from mid-America to the middle of England
to interview our Simply
Brilliant Member of the Month (MOTM), who shares a few thoughts on
interactive web design.
As usual, last month's Shout-out
provided some interesting comments. This month we canvass your thoughts on
interviews.
SitePoint
Social Groups provide an extra space for you to interact with your
peers. This month we introduce the five newest forums.
As always, we encourage you to interact with our new members. Hello
There highlights some details on a few recent SitePoint inductees so
that you can introduce yourself to them.
Are you ready to collaborate? Let's go!

Exploring SitePoint Forums
One of the newer sections of SitePoint Forums is Content for
Your Site. However, as the Web changes, we've learned that
written content is just a small part of building a contemporary
web site. In keeping with the times, the subforum Multimedia
Content is the place to post your questions and ideas about
interactive media, from Audio,
Video, and Animation to Widgets and
Mashups. You'll also find tips on Games in
this subsection, or stop by and enter the photo challenge posted each month
in Photography.

MOTM: bluedreamer
This month it was my pleasure to interview one of SitePoint's
long-standing and most interesting members, bluedreamer.
As one of his many wise answers to my questions, bluedreamer
advised that "going the extra mile" can make a big difference.
Well it did in this interview since we live thousands of miles from each
other. We discussed everything from cats and dogs to Kathmandu.
Read
my interview, and please stop by and congratulate bluedreamer
on his MOTM award.
Shout-out
Last Month
Last month we polled SitePoint members asking, "What's your
favorite time of day?"
Over two-thirds of our respondents prefer the darker hours: half of
those favor midnight to sunrise while the other half enjoy sunset to
midnight. The preference for sunrise to midday came next, with a only a
smidgen of members choosing noon to sunset. Alex Dawson put forth
a theory on why web developers prefer the night: "... a high
percentage of us are nocturnal creatures (probably because we spend so
much time indoors we are allergic to sunlight)."
Here are some of the more memorable responses:
-
r937 has two favorite times of day: 9.37 a.m. and 9.37 p.m.
-
Lankanwarrior (5.00 p.m. on Fridays), Chriscash01
(2.00 to 3.00 p.m.), Livewellfinance (11.59 a.m.), and
sikceo (9.11 a.m.) were also very specific.
-
Rachel Green seems to love the morning with her comment,
"Thank God, I wake up again!"
-
Gunner and RogueScripts are very early-morning
people, still up and about at 3.00 a.m. and 4.00 a.m. respectively!
This Month
My interview with bluedreamer made me wonder, "If you
could interview just one person who would it be and what is the first
question you would ask them?"
Please satisfy my curiosity with your reply in the August
Shout-out.
SitePoint Social
Interact/Collaborate with Your Peers!
Many SitePointers establish social groups to find contacts located in
their part of the world. Two of our newest Social Groups are Indian
SitePointer and Nepal

Other SitePoint members create Social Groups to find likeminded people
who share a particular interest. Those formed recently include Fashion and
Beauty, About Online
Degrees, and Video
Converter.
