  Hello Tribuners,

I goofed last week, and as a result the links to the articles we published didn't work. Within minutes of sending out the issue, I started getting emails from readers telling me about the problem....

After all was said and done, I received and replied to several hundred emails. It's great to know there are so many watchful eyes out there! If you tried the links, but didn't email me, I've republished all the corrected links in this week's issue. Give them another ago.

By the way, if you're running Windows, be sure to run "Windows Update" this week. Two major security holes were found in the suite, allowing anybody to run malicious code on your computer.

Contextual Advertising -- There's More Than Google

Recently in this space I wrote about how Google was taking ads placed through their "AdWords" program, and syndicating them onto other content sites on a revenue share basis. In essence, Google is entering the ad network space, though in a very exclusive sense -- the minimum number of monthly impressions a site owner has to achieve in order to join the syndication program is 30 million.

Google isn't the only one trying to increase their revenue through ad-syndication. If you're an advertiser on Overture, your ads also appear on a pop-under window launched by Gator whenever someone performs a search at Yahoo! or Google, or another major search engine. Unfortunately for Overture advertisers, there is no way to opt-out. And soon, your ads will appear on syndicated content sites as well.

Overture is now planning to go head-to-head against Google's AdWords Network. With the recent acquisitions of Inktomi and AllTheWeb, Overture has access to vast databases that describe what hundreds of millions of Web pages are about. Overture is now able to match an ad to the content on any given page. It's expected that Overture's contextual advertising product will be released in the second half of this year.

IndustryBrains.com is another network that pay-per-click text ads on the search results pages of content sites. This network targets "business/technology" sites such as PC Magazine, MacWorld, and Tom's Hardware. Because they don't have a database that describes the content of each page, they are unable to target ads onto non-search results pages.

Not to be left out in the cold, About.com also offers "ContentSprinks" -- text ads which appear on over 350 content Websites: http://www.sprinks.com/faq/index.htm#contentsprinks .

Each of these PPC networks is worth a look: whether you're an advertiser (small or big), or a publisher with plenty of traffic to spare.

Tool: Monitor Your And Your Competitor's Rankings

Keep track of new competitors and ranking changes at Google the easy way. http://www.googlert.com is a service that runs daily searches on any keywords you specify, and emails the results to you.

If you have any extremely important rankings on Google, this is a great way to ensure that you're automatically notified if new competitors appear on the first page of search results, bumping you off.

An even better way to monitor your rankings on Google and every other major search engine is WebPosition. First Place Software, which has been putting out versions of WebPosition for as long as I can remember, does an excellent job not only of monitoring rankings, but helping you achieve them. Check it out.

  Download of the Week...

Are you a speed freak? If so, listen up!

Every time you go to a new Website, or a Website you haven't been to in a day or so, your computer needs to locate the server again using DNS. Each DNS request can take anywhere from 50 milliseconds, to a second or more.

AnalogX FastCache is a caching DNS server that runs on your local machine and handles any DNS request that your computer makes, from Internet Explorer to your favorite FTP client.

Once a query is made, FastCache will override the normal timeout for the item with one that you specify. So, instead of saving a query for a couple of seconds, FastCache can save it for a couple of days. The result? Quicker access to Websites.

Program Name: FastCache

Know of a good utility/program that should be Download of the Week? Let me know!. If your suggestion is used we'll publish your URL in this newsletter, which reaches 51,000 interested subscribers.
