.NET Framework 2.0 goes gold

By | | .NET

Been waiting for .NET 2.0 to leave its seemingly perpetual beta cycle before trying it out? Well, today’s the day, people. .NET Framework 2.0 is out and ready to download. This includes ASP.NET 2.0.

Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 are also available for those lucky enough to have an MSDN Subscription. The rest of us will have to wait for the official launch on November 7.

The design view of VWD 2005 express edition is not coming when I try to worki. Why ? How to resolve it?

I cannot uninstall SQL express 2005, it says .NET 2.0 is not installed, but it is!

Until I get the new SQL installed, my pages keep crashing!

I used gridview, master pages, templates in my project.
Its really cool and awesome.
Definitely helping programmers to reach new heights. :)

Is the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition compatible with applications built in php?

Yes, you should be able to access it using PHP’s SQL Server library.

What is the general opinion of people regarding the stability of the new release?

Is it gonna need a service pack in the next few days or what?

Ah, finally some consideration for standards like XHTML! Score one for Microsoft!

I’ve had the full version for a few weeks now from MSDN, and it requires you to remove all beta, beta2 versions of sqlXpress, .NET Framework beta, and any previous versions of Visual studio or visual web dev. If you do get your hands on the full verion such as Team Suite from MSDN, or pro/standard. Just remove your previous version of the .NET framework 2.0 (whether it’s beta1 or 2), remove previous versions of sql express, msdn help for version 2, and any VS 2005 betas. Reboot your puter, and install the new version, you’ll be set.

The new features in VS.NET 2005 are amazing, you can build business objects, or external dataset/data classes and visually connect and build gridviews etc from them. It’s a badass RAD….so many features.

Kevin, as always it appears you are right on top of things. Thanks for that.

I just recently downloaded and started to work with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Beta 2 and having seen some of the ASP.NET 2.0 things demonstrated in this I have been wondering when they would bring it out of beta.

I’m just getting into ASP.NET myself so I am looking forward to being able to take advantage of some of the improved features, one of which is ASP.NET 2.0′s inclusion of the XHTML standard.

I think it will, I’m running Beta 2 without .net 2.0 installed so can’t imagine it will make a difference

If I install a sharp version of .NET 2.0, does my Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 work?

I’ll want to use that until a sharp version of VS 2005 is ready.

Yep, ASP.NET 2.0 is included.

fishball October 28, 2005 at 12:44 am

does it include asp.net 2? I’ve tried their master pages, themes, and logins controls and their cool men :) The learning curve is steep specially if your coming from php but rewards are great. asp.net 2 really rocks!
