Welcome to SitePoint

How can we help?

I have a shipping question.

Where's My Order?

We understand and appreciate how frustrating it can be when customer service promises are broken, so if it's been ages since you placed your order and you still haven't received it, we want to get to the bottom of it for you. Whether it be a temporary 'out of stock' issue, a shipping mishap, or some kind of natural disaster, we'll work out the cause of the delay and rectify it immediately, or keep you posted if it needs to be explored further.

Before you reach out to us, you might want to take a quick look at our shipping times and rates. Just drop us a line at books@sitepoint.com and quote your order number if you’re unsure.

U.S.A

If you live in the United States, your order should arrive within 3-10 business days (Standard, single or multiple book order) or 2 business days (Express, single or multiple book order) or 6-10 business days (Kits only) from the date it leaves our warehouse. If it does not arrive within that timeframe, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com and quote your order number. Within the U.S.A. we ship via USPS, which provides tracking.

International

If you live outside the United States, please take a look at our shipping times and rates. Outside the U.S.A. we ship via DHL, which DOES NOT provide tracking. The regions include: Canada, UK/Ireland, Australia/NZ and Rest of the World (Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Africa and Oceania). We offer Standard and Express rates and delivery times for single or multiple book orders, and a special 'Kits only' rate.

International Service Alerts

Sometimes there will be delivery problems and delays in specific countries. As we employ DHL for international shipments, you will find daily updates at DHL International Service Alerts.

Countries that do not appear on the service alert page should have no major delivery issues at the moment.

How much does shipping cost?

On November, 2011 we changed couriers to USPS (within the U.S.A.) and DHL (all other countries). For shipping charges, you might want to take a quick look at our shipping times and rates.

Do you ship to my country?

Most likely, yes! We ship worldwide with a few exceptions:

We are unable to ship to Iraq, North Korea, Myanmar (Burma), Somalia, Sudan, United States Minor Outlying Islands and Western Sahara.

This is due to unreliable postal service and potential fraud risks. We’re really sorry about this, and obviously we’d love to be able to accept your business, but it’s just not possible. Hopefully you’ll be able to pick up the SitePoint product you’re after through Amazon. Alternatively, you could get the downloadable ePack version (PDF for Adobe Reader, MOBI for Kindle, EPUB for iPad/iPhone).

Can I track my order?

USA

Your order will ship via USPS and will be completely trackable, from our warehouse to your doorstep.

Once your order leaves our warehouse in Connecticut, our system will automatically send you an email with the shipping date and your USPS tracking number. So always be sure to type your correct email address during the payment process and please check your spam filter for our emails regularly.

To track your order, type your tracking number at USPS Tracking Page.

International

Unfortunately, our DHL service does not provide tracking for either the standard or express shipping options. For worldwide delivery times (excluding the U.S.A.), you might want to take a quick look at our shipping times and rates. If your order has not arrived within the time frame or if you have any questions regarding your shipment, please email us at books@sitepoint.com.

My product arrived damaged.

We're really, really sorry to hear that you've received your SitePoint goodies in a less-than-perfect state. We'll send you a replacement immediately if your products are beyond salvation, but if you think you can still use them then maybe we can work something out? We're always happy to offer some compensation if you can be persuaded to hold on to the damaged goods. But of course, even if your products are only slightly damaged and you want replacements we won't hesitate to fulfil your wishes. It's completely up to you, just email us at books@sitepoint.com and we'll work it out.

I was sent the wrong product.

Sounds like there was a packing error at our warehouse. Sorry about that, simply email us at books@sitepoint.com and tell us your order number and which products you did not receive and we’ll get the right one on the way immediately. Please feel free to keep the products we wrongly sent you as a gift, or you could donate them to a local school or library.

I have a payment question.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Our only payment methods are credit card and PayPal. We accept VISA, AMEX, or MASTERCARD credit cards. You can use your existing PayPal account, or you can set up a new one.

We DO NOT ACCEPT payments by check, money order (Western Union) or wire transfer.

What if I don't have a credit card or PayPal account?

If you don’t have a credit card or PayPal account, you can register on www.paypal.com and make your payment with an eCheque.

What is an eCheque?

eCheques are payments from buyers who have attached their bank details to their PayPal account, but do not have a valid backup funding source such as a credit or debit card. It may also be that their backup card has expired. So to ensure that a secure payment can still made, an eCheque is generated.

Sending an eCheque is a bit like sending someone a paper cheque, only it is done electronically. And because PayPal processes it, the payment is also protected and the sender and recipient do not need to share their financial details.

How does an eCheque work?

The money is withdrawn from the buyer's bank within a period of time, which can vary from bank to bank. It is then processed by the buyer's bank, before being transferred and deposited into the seller's bank account.

How long does it take PayPal to process my payment?

Bank processing times vary according to the buyer's country. The entire process can take 3-10 working days, depending on the bank.

Can I cancel an eCheque?

Yes. Click CANCEL at the bottom of your transaction details page. If we have not begun processing the payment, we will cancel it outright. If we have already begun processing the payment, we'll refund the money into your PayPal account.

I’ve sent an eCheque, what do I do now?

Don’t worry, all you need to do is wait for the payment to clear – this normally takes 3-10 days depending on your bank and/or country. Please bear in mind that SitePoint must wait until your eCheque payment has completed before fulfilling your order.

For more information please visit PayPal Help Center.

What currency are your prices in?

All our prices are in US dollars.

Hey, I've given you my cash but my order doesn't seem to have gone through - what gives?

We know there’s nothing worse than that sinking feeling you get when “something’s gone wrong” after you’ve entered your payment details. Unfortunately it’s one of those rare things that happen from time to time, and we’re here to help when and if you ever find yourself in that situation.

There are a few legitimate reasons why your order may not have processed (even though you’ve been charged):

Orders of US$300 or more:

Our payment system has inbuilt logic that halts an order if the overall value of the order is exceptionally high (so we can contact you to confirm it’s you who’s ordering, and not some punk who’s stolen your credit card). We will automatically send you an email in this scenario, so you shouldn’t have to worry about it.

Two or more orders in a very short space of time:

Our payment system has inbuilt logic that halts an order (so we can contact you just to make sure you’re not accidentally ordering the same thing twice). We will automatically send you an email in this scenario, so you shouldn’t have to worry about it.

Your credit card CVV code was not approved:

Our payment system has inbuilt logic that halts an order if your credit card provider does not approve the 3-digit security CVV code on the back of your credit card, so please be sure to type the correct code during the payment process. We will automatically send you an email to ask you for your CVV code confirmation so we can fulfill your order.

Your credit card is from a country with high fraud history:

Our international credit card payment system has inbuilt logic that halts an order if your credit card is from a high fraud country. These countries are: Algeria, Argentina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Ghana, Indonesia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Nigeria, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia & Montenegro.

Alternatively, you can make your payment through PayPal, as all PayPal transactions are accepted.

But whatever the reason, if you have any concerns at all about the payment status of your order, please do not hesitate to contact us at books@sitepoint.com.

Why don't you accept payment from my country?

Please note: We may be unable to accept payments if your credit card is from: Algeria, Argentina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Ghana, Indonesia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Nigeria, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia & Montenegro.

This is due to potential credit fraud risks. We’re really sorry about this, and please don’t take it personally. We’re following the policies of our international credit card payment system. Hopefully you’ll be able to payment through PayPal, as all PayPal transactions are accepted.

If I'm in Melbourne, Australia, can I buy directly from your office?

Our office HQ is in Melbourne, Australia. If you’re in our neck of the woods and you’d like to cut out the middle man, by all means contact us at books@sitepoint.com to see if we have the stock that you’re after. You can drop by and pick it up over the counter. Please bear in mind, we do not operate as a warehouse (we have a place in Connecticut, USA that handles that for us) and as such we may not have the title that you’re after. We rarely have more than one or two copies of any of our books. If you can confirm that we do have the stock you want in the office, you’ll need to take note of the cost and bring exact money – we’re just a bunch of geeks sitting around banging on keyboards, we don’t have a cash register!

I have a pre-sales question.

Where can I log in to see my purchase history?

Our team of developers is working hard building our new customer’s personal account site, so you can check your purchase history, re-download your EPACKs, etc. Until this site is ready to roll, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com. All you need to send us is the exact email address you used to place your orders, or any order number you might have, or at least your exact (and complete) name you used to place your orders.

How can I get more info on a product?

Each one of our products has it’s own dedicated page where you can read further information, learn more about the product and the author, or even download free sample chapters (in the case of kits and books/EPACKs).

If you still have any questions about our products, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com.

How can I get more info on foreign language editions of your products?

Unfortunately we are only able to publish non-English language editions of our books when a publisher who is willing to buy the rights to release a SitePoint book in their chosen language approaches us. If you would like to inquire about obtaining rights to publish one of our books in another language, you can contact O'Reilly (our USA based distributor). If you have a foreign language edition of one of our books and you are experiencing difficulty getting the code, please email us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know which book you need the code for.

Why purchase directly from SitePoint?

At SitePoint, we know that you can choose to purchase our products elsewhere. Our books are available in all good retail bookstores, and many online stores (most notably, Amazon). You might find one of our books for a better price elsewhere, and although we can’t mix it with the big guys and offer a guaranteed price match, we can guarantee that we’ll give you a much better ‘hands-on’ customer service experience.

When you purchase directly through sitepoint.com, you are getting the guaranteed latest version of the book, plus we throw in all sorts of goodies like book/EPACK/online courses bundles and discounts. Incidentally, EPACK (PDF for Adobe Reader, MOBI for Amazon Kindle and EPUB for iPad/iPhone) versions of our books are available exclusively through sitepoint.com. We also keep your past purchases in mind when new releases come out, so if you buy directly through us you never know when you might get a killer discount on one of our great new books!

We also have a 30-day money back guarantee*, so you can make your purchase with complete confidence that, if for some reason the product does not meet your needs, you’ll get your money back with not hassle at all.

*Please note that if your purchase includes a CD, this guarantee will be rendered void once you remove that CD from its sleeve.

Which product is right for me?

We know that there are all sorts of interest groups within the large SitePoint community. From folks who’ve never written any code in their life and want to learn how, to seasoned veterans who’ve been designing and developing web sites since the heady days of Netscape Navigator. Well, whatever your areas of interest or skill level, chances are we’ve got a book, kit or video that’s just right for you.

If you know which area of web design and development you need to read up on, but you’re not sure which one of our books is right for you, you can consult our SitePoint book matrix.

Do you send review or desk copies?

If you have a web site that you’d like to publish a review on, we may be able to send you review copies of our books. Contact us at books@sitepoint.com to let us know where the review would be posted and we’ll investigate.

If you are an academic, or work in the education industry in the USA or Canada, and you would like a desk copy of one of our products, we are more than happy to oblige. However, unfortunately we don’t personally handle the distribution of academic review copies of our books. Our US distributor, O’Reilly, handles this. You can contact O'Reilly directly.

For academics outside of the USA and Canada, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com and we will work something out.

Can I buy one of your kits in EPACK format?

Yes! Our SEO Business Guide is now available only in EPACK (PDF for Adobe Reader, MOBI for Amazon Kindle and EPUB for iPad/iPhone).

Also, The Web Design Business Kit, 3rd. Edition includes the EPACK (PDF for Adobe Reader, MOBI for Amazon Kindle and EPUB for iPad/iPhone) only with the purchase of the printed version of the Kit.

Unfortunately, our other Kits are currently unavailable in printed or EPACK versions.

Are your EPACKs compatible with portable devices?

Yes. Our EPACKs are not password protected and include PDF (for Adobe Reader), MOBI (for Amazon Kindle) and EPUB (for iPad/iPhone) versions. They also work on newer devices such as Nook, Android Tablets, Smart Phones, etc.

For customers who have previously purchased EPACKs or PDFs from us when we used to have password protection, you will simply have to log back in and re-download those EPACKs in order to be able to view them on your portable device. You’ll need to enter the exact email address you used to place your order, along with your SitePoint order number.

If you don’t have one or any of them, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com.

Do all your titles have EPACK versions?

Nope, a very few titles we’re currently selling only come in PDFs and they do not include EPUB and MOBI versions. These titles were produced in formats that cannot be converted to EPUB or MOBI files. The titles in PDF versions only are:

  • The Art & Science of CSS
  • The Ultimate HTML Reference
  • The Ultimate CSS Reference
  • The Photoshop Anthology
  • Outsourcing Web Projects: 6 Steps to a Smarter Business
  • Flipping Web Sites for Profit

For more information, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com.

How do I order an EPACK version of one of your books?

To order an EPACK (PDF for Adobe Reader, MOBI for Amazon Kindle and EPUB for iPad/iPhone) version of one of our books, simply go the sales page for the book that you desire and select the ‘EPACK Only’ option from the list of 3 purchase options.

For example, if you wanted to purchase the PDF of Build Your Own Database Driven Web Site Using PHP & MySQL 4th. Edition, you would go to the book page and then check the ‘EPACK Only’ button which is the last of the three purchase button options. You then need to click the ‘Order This Book Now’ button directly below the three purchase button options. This will take you to the order form.

If you have any questions about this process, please email us at books@sitepoint.com.

Can I print a copy of my digital book?

When you purchase one of our EPACKs, you are buying one single license to the book. This means that you cannot make it available for multiple people to access it at the same time (whether by copying and distributing the PDF, EPUB or MOBI files, or copying and distributing printed versions). You can certainly print off a copy for personal use.

You used to offer posters with some of your books, what happened?

We used to include posters with some of our books but unfortunately these posters are currently outdated or out of stock. If you’d like us to send you any of our posters in PDF version by email, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com.

I want to return my item for a refund.

We don’t have a grudging returns policy – if you didn’t get what you wanted out of our products, we want you to return them! We have a 30-day money back guarantee on all products purchased from sitepoint.com (unfortunately we cannot offer refunds on SitePoint products purchased elsewhere). In case of an EPACK purchase, you might want to exchange the one you didn’t like for another EPACK of the same price.

*Please note that if your purchase includes a CD, this guarantee will be rendered void once you remove that CD from its sleeve.

I've lost, damaged, or never received the CD ROM that comes with your kits.

If you’ve previously purchased a kit from us and it either arrived without the CD ROM, or arrived with a faulty CD ROM, simply email us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know which kit you have. We can either immediately email you a zip file which contains the contents of the CD ROM, or we can organise for the folks at our warehouse to ship you a physical replacement (obviously this will take some time, depending on where you are located). If you have an older edition of one of our kits, it may be a little more complicated for us to find the files that contain the content from the CD ROM. We won’t be able to send you a physical copy of the CD ROM from old editions. However, if you email us and tell us which kit and which old edition you have, we should be able to get you the files eventually.

I cannot view my PDF, EPUB or MOBI files, they are corrupted or damaged.

Please note, in order to view our PDFs you will need to have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed. If you do not have the latest version, you can download it for free from Adobe. If you have successfully downloaded your PDF, and you have installed the latest version of Adobe Reader, but you are still having trouble viewing it, please email us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know your order number and the title of the PDF that you’ve bought. You will also need to give us a detailed description of the problem you’re having (attaching a screen shot would be ideal), and some information about your operating system.

If have problems downloading your EPUB or MOBI files, please change browsers or update yours with the latest version. If you downloaded your EPUB file as a ZIP file, you can fix this by changing the file extension from .zip to .epub. If the problem persist, please email us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know your order number and the title of the EPACK that you’ve purchased.

I want to report a typo or bug.

I found a typo in a book, EPACK, kit or other SitePoint product.

As much as we’d like to pretend that we’re perfect, we know that a few typos, errors and bugs will slip past us every now and then. If you think you’ve found one in a book, kit, EPACK, or video, first of all give yourself a pat on the back (you smart cookie, you!) and then drop us a line at editor@sitepoint.com to let us know about it. We’ll make sure the right person hears about it so that we can get it fixed as soon as possible.

I need help with the SitePoint Marketplace.

I've never done this before - how do I use the Marketplace?

In order to participate in our Marketplace, you need to create an account with us. This account will also allow you to participate in our forums. Once you have registered an account, you can check out existing listings (if you’re in the market to buy goods or services) or create a listing of your own (if you’re in the market to sell goods or services). Before you jump into the Marketplace, it is strongly recommended that you thoroughly examine all the information that the Marketplace help and FAQ page has to offer. This may save you headaches further down the line, especially as regards the rules, regulations, and terms that you are agreeing to when you sign up to the Marketplace.

Please note: we do not allow any adult-themed content or offensive material on our Marketplace.

I want to report a Marketplace listing or user.

If you find yourself browsing a particular listing that you feel violates our Marketplace terms of service (which every participant in the marketplace agrees to when they sign up to create an account with us), you can click the ‘report this listing’ link, which you’ll find down the left hand side of the page, underneath the ‘owner profile’ section. We will investigate the listing and take the appropriate action, if any is warranted.

Please note: this is not a means for feuding members to try and ‘do each other in’ so to speak. We have our own methods for determining whether or not a member or listing is in violation of our terms, and we don’t take kindly to folks trying to force our hand simply because they have a personal grudge against another member of the marketplace community. That said, we rely on you guys to be our eyes and ears out there, so if you have an honest concern that something fishy is going on, please report it to us ASAP.

If you have any queries about this process, email us at support@sitepoint.com.

I can't log in to my Marketplace account.

If you’re having trouble logging into the Marketplace, it could be for several reasons. If you are new to the Marketplace and have recently created your account, we may have you listed as ‘awaiting user email confirmation.’ This means that we have sent you an automated email for you to confirm your account, and it has either not arrived in your inbox or it is trapped in your spam/junk folder. Please check your junk/spam folder, and if you still cannot find the confirmation simply email us at support@sitepoint.com to advise of your username.

It's also possible that you have been suspended or banned from the Marketplace for contravening the guidelines and terms of service (which every Marketplace user agrees to when they sign up). However, in this scenario you should receive a notification of why you have been banned or suspended.

I want to change my password.

If you want to change your password, or edit any of your account details, you can go to the ‘My Profile’ link on your account and then click ‘Edit Details.’ If you experience any difficulties with this, simply email us at support@sitepoint.com.

How does the Marketplace work?

The SitePoint Marketplace is an online classifieds platform, through which all sorts of web entrepreneurs, designers and developers who are looking to buy or sell goods and services can meet and negotiate.

Classified listings categories include:

  • Templates for sale
  • Advertise your services
  • Link exchanges
  • Advertising space for sale
  • Scripts & software for sale
  • Name My Thingy
  • Domain name classifieds
  • Web hosting deals
  • Want to buy
  • Looking to hire
  • Content for sale

Sellers can purchase credits to pay for listings, or create listings in the free categories. The listings will have a time limit. Buyers should note that credits cannot be used to purchase goods on the SitePoint marketplace. You should only purchase credits if you plan on creating listings to advertise your goods and/or services. You will need to use a service such as PayPal to actually pay for goods or services that you purchase through the Marketplace, and this is something you should confirm with the seller.

How do I place an ad/listing?

The process is pretty intuitive actually, so once you’ve created an account for yourself and purchased some credits, you can just jump into it and follow the prompts. If you are unsure at any stage of the process, be sure to consult our FAQ page, and if you still aren’t finding the answers you’re looking for just email us at support@sitepoint.com.

I need help with the SitePoint Forums.

How do I join the Forums?

It's easy! Simply create an account and read the terms and conditions. Once you have done so, tick the box next to “I have read, and agree to abide by the SitePoint Forums rules,” and then click ‘register.’

I've just signed up to the Forums, but I can't log in.

If you have recently signed up to the SitePoint forums, but find you cannot log in, post a reply, or start a new thread, please email us at forums@sitepoint.com and advise us of your username. It could well be that the confirmation email which we automatically send you has gotten lost in your spam or junk folder, so you might want to check that out before contacting us.

I can't post in the Forums.

Also, if you are new to the forums, and have made relatively few posts, there may be certain areas that you cannot post to. We work on a trust system where the more posts you make, the more privileges you gain. For example, you must make at least 10 posts before you can include a link in your posts. But be careful – we have a tough policy on ‘fluff’ posts (posts that are solely made with the intention of upping your overall post count).

I want to change my username/account details.

If you have misspelt your email address or username when registering, or you want to put in a request for a username change, please contact us at forums@sitepoint.com. You can also request that your account be disabled/shut down. In the event that you are requesting a username change, please note that we strictly allow one username change per account. This is to encourage transparency and foster a sense of trust throughout the forum community. For similar reasons, we strictly forbid multiple accounts, and anyone found to be operating more than one account on our forums might be banned for life.

Why can't I perform certain actions (post links etc.)?

If you cannot post in certain forums, this means you do not yet have the sufficient post count to do so. For example, you will not be able to make a post that includes a link until you have made 10 posts. To add your own avatar, you will need to make at least 25 posts, to get your site reviewed you must write at least 3 in-depth reviews yourself etc. For further information please read the guidelines. However if you think you do have the sufficient post count to perform certain actions that you are not able to perform, please contact us at forums@sitepoint.com. It may take a while for your permissions to be updated, so we ask that you please be patient.

A useful tip to use when you’re making your first few posts is to use the word ‘dot’ instead of placing an actual ‘.’ in any markup etc. that you might be writing (if you were typing ‘ASP.NET,’ for example).

How do warnings, bannings, and infractions work?

Before you start posting on the SitePoint forums, you should definitely read the guidelines. That way, you won’t get a nasty surprise if you suddenly receive a warning (or worse – you get banned) for breaking a rule that you did not even know existed. Some common rookie mistakes are:

  • Self promotion
  • SPAM
  • Bumping posts
  • Soliciting social bookmarks

Regardless of whether or not you are aware that these are against the rules, you can be warned, given infraction points or even banned for dabbling in these dark arts. If you reach 8 infraction points, you will automatically be banned (and the ban can last anywhere from a month up to life). We don’t mess around ;)

Please note: we do not allow any adult-themed content or offensive material on our Forums.

I want to delete my account and/or posts.

If you've decided that you can no longer participate in the SitePoint Forums, simply turn off all of the notification options in your profile and stop posting. SitePoint doesn't delete accounts, except in extraordinary circumstances, so turning off notifications is the quickest and easiest way to remove yourself from the Forums.

Why do I have ‘insufficient privileges’ to perform certain actions? (post a link, write a review etc.)

I need help with SitePoint mailing lists or Newsletter subscriptions.

How do I subscribe to/unsubscribe from one of your newsletters?

It's pretty easy to manage your newsletter subsciptions. Just enter your email address in the relevant field, checking the relevant newsletters that you wish to subscribe to/unsubscribe from. If you hit any hurdles, please email us at newsletters@sitepoint.com and we’ll give you a hand.

How do I subscribe/unsubscribe from your promotional emails?

If you want to sign up to get email notifications of our new releases and special offers, you can join the Book Buyers' Club. If you want to be unsubscribed from these email notifications, there are two links at the bottom of each email that allow you to unsubscribe from either the particular sequence, or to never receive such emails from us ever again. Simply click on the corresponding link.

If you experience any difficulty with this, simply email us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know which particular email list you want to be removed from. If you don’t want to hear from us, we will happily place you on our global ‘do not email’ list.

I need help with SitePoint code archives or sample chapter downloads.

I'm having problems downloading code archives.

To access the code archive for a SitePoint book (not all of our books have a code archive), simply go to the Books page and click the link to the appropriate book.

Eg. If you wanted the code archive for Build Your Own Database Driven Web Site Using PHP & MySQL 4th. Edition you would go here and then select the code archive link.

You don’t need a password to get the code for any of our books.

If you are experiencing difficulty getting the code, try change browsers or update yours with the latest version. If the problem persists, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know which book you need the code for.

I'm having problems downloading sample chapters.

In order to view our PDFs, you will need to have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed. If you don’t have it, you can download it for free from Adobe.

Depending on the email service you use, it can take up to an hour for the sample chapters email to hit your inbox. If you’ve waited for a while and you are still not receiving the email that contains the link to the sample PDF, you may want to check your junk or spam folders. If you’ve already done so, and you still haven’t been able to download the sample chapters, please contact us at books@sitepoint.com.

If you’ve downloaded the sample PDF and it is corrupted, or there is some kind of technical issue with it, simply email us at books@sitepoint.com and let us know what’s going on.
