dofollow blog, 2 win situation?

hi, i'm new to this blogging, traffic, SEO thing, there is this question always in my head and i couldnt find a good answer, i hope i can get some help here, thank you all very much.

1. i know there are lots of high PR blogs won't go dofollow because there will be masses of spammers commenting, i wonder, if that's the case, wouldn't be a 2 win situation? (blog host) he gets the mass traffic; (spammer) if comment approved, he get good backlinks

The problem with spammers sometimes is that their links are from porn sites or some banned sites or other not really good sites. Now if you get too many links from this site that would hurt your site as well.. And I just read a thread here few minutes ago that it could affect what your google ads is showing, though I'm still not sure about that..

yes i read that thread too, but if the comment is not approved, then the junk link won't show isn't it? or the link will store in my blog which will affect the adsense?
here is what i think: assume i have a blog with high PR
spammers: kept spamming try to get a back link
blog owner: gets the traffic, once a while accept junk comments like "thanks", "good post"
spammers: damn this blog accept gay comments, keep on trying
blog owner: haha traffic

Sounds good, but the problem is some unusual scenerio. Almost all SEO companies ask not to have more than 25 links from one page, otherwise it may have a negative SEO effect. Google takes a link from a site as a vote for the site, so if a PR6 blog links to PR0 blog then high PR site may penalized (although its not confirmed, just an idea). That's why most blogs tend be no-follow.

wow, what kind of penalty? delete your whole site? or blocking communication to my site? (like google search)

ok, i was thinking it in reverse, assume i have a low PR blog, i make it to dofollow
i go to a netcafe, or ask some guy, with different ip; comment on my blog, link to a high PR website (like youtube, cnn); will i get the SEO effect?

also, i noticed that PageRank, is for the single page, not the whole web; so if my blog's homepage has high PR, i write new blog, is to new page, so do i need to get high PR for those pages too?

It's a lose lose situation: masses of worthless traffic for the blog owner, and next to worthless links (for SEO) for the blog commentor.

Yeah it's not really worth persuing. I had dofollow for a bit, and I got sick of comments from people saying "Thankssssssss" linking to their "Quality Site" (I use that term ironically).

Nearly made me stop blogging, it was demoralising.

Spam commentators comes to only promote their site . So there is no for having such time of traffic to the site owners. For that only they are having nofollow blogs.

For my site, I use no follow script for the comment section.

As for me, rather seeing it as a bad idea, I see it as one way to reward my commentators as I believe we should not thing just about us; we should think about others too.

By having no follow script, it can be one of the way of rewarding my great commentators.

On the spamming problem, I dont think it is such a big issue because our readers has spent their precious time to leave comments on our site. It will be unfair and pretty selfish if we can't spent minimal time to rid off the spam comments .

After all, it will be win-win situation and make our readers happy.

What do you guys think?

They make their blogs so famous because they build communities with other bloggers. For example in Digg. If you have atleast 50 to 100 friends there they tell them that you have a new blog post in Digg all your friends will digg your post.

Just use a recaptcha and then have dofollow on your site -- as said by herlinda256

That is the best way to build links and build up your site in regards to seo - it's how all of the big guys are doing it

Hey I learned from my broker that a lot of people don't like to have do-follows because they give up alot of what they call link juice.

I don't think that it is a good idea to fully open your blog's comments. It is much better the new ones to be hold for moderation. Do follow is OK if the posters do not use their comments and posts to place some links on the blog.

I have found with digg all the sites I have put on there I get a backlink , its best to link to blogs which are related to your niche.

I was told by my marketing company that , By having one link from a PR 2 Directory which is related to your topic would be better if you was linking to a site which is a PR4 and not related.

well, generally all blogs are nofollow, even google has asked webmaster to make it nofollow. It protects spamming and also increases the quality of the blog.

It's right....

My blog is dofollow and it can increase traffic, but there's many spammers come to give comments.

Any blog owner will approve your comment, whether its a dofollow or nofollow blog, only if the comment is relevant to the post and enough informative for the coming visitors. Most of the time as others said, people just visit blogs for building backlinks and comments anything which is not worth.

this high pr sites are nofollow so you wont get any backlink but you may get traffic.

I don't think you'd get much of a traffic benefit. I get about 600 spam comment a day but most if not all of that is automated and that's not really a traffic benefit.

Although having a Dofollow blog, you do get more genuine people commenting. More than if you had a Nofollow blog.

Dofollow will only hurt you and your blog if the links are linking to bad sites.
