"Build Your Own ASP.NET Website Using C# & VB.NET" released by SitePoint

We're very proud to announce that our latest book, Build Your Own ASP.NET Website Using C# & VB.NET is now available.

Written by Zak Ruvalcaba, this book is a practical tutorial that will get you building your own ASP.NET Websites in no time! Based on the same style as Kevin Yank's hugely successful Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL, this book is deigned to teach you all you need to know to get going with Microsoft's powerful ASP.NET technology.

Unlike many other books about ASP.NET, Build Your Own ASP.NET Website Using C# & VB.NET covers both C# and VB.NET, so you can see which language you prefer and follow that through the book, or learn both at once.

Here's just a few of the things that the book will teach you:
  • Build an ecommerce store with multiple product functionality
  • Integrate a PayPal credit card processing facility into your online store.
  • Develop a Corporate Intranet with a dynamic navigation menu.
  • Create a company wide email newsletter system using ASP.NET
  • Build Web Forms using Web controls, validation controls, and rich controls
  • Access database data using ADO.NET - using your choice of database: the simple MS Access; the free MSDE; or the fully featured SQL Server
  • Create your own controls with user controls
  • Speed up your applications by caching your pages and the data within them, both client- and server-side, to dramatically increase performance and decrease bandwidth usage
  • Handle unforeseen errors gracefully using a wide array of error handling techniques
  • Secure your applications using forms authentication
  • Build your own Web Services and consume a third party Google search service
  • And much more, see the full Table Of Contents
Zak has really done a great job, download the first four chapters and check it out for yourself!

Great

I wish this book all the possible success!

As soon as I'll be comfortable with my PHP, I'll make sure to buy it. Heh heh

Maybe I wouldn't think it was junk if it was easier to develop and test under the Mac OS...kind of like how PHP is.

I think I'll be picking this up, even though I'll probably be attending a .Net bootcamp this summer for MCAD/MCSD... I'm reading the first 4 chapters (yes, simultaneously, ha) right now.

True enough.

In all honesty, thanks to this book, I will probably finally get around to learning ASP.NET. If I ever find the time, that is.

Have read the sample chapters and will definitly buy the book!

Being a long time PHP developer I am very curious on C# which offers much much more on OOP than PHP(at the moment) and that's what I "need"

Don't get me wrong..PHP will remain number one choice for me....(hm..maybe this book will change that )

Congratulations SitePoint...

This is a "must buy"....

I have just bought this book and it is really good. I think it is one of the best books I have in my collection and I have a lot.. (more than the British library)

I'm wondering if those who have bought the book could share their comments/experiences with it so far?

When I click on the link to download the files for the new asp.net website book, it acts like it is downloading, winzip opens up, but there are no files. What do I do?

I've only glanced through it yet (haven't had the time to get started with it), but so far I'm pretty impressed.

Shipping was excellent; it took 3 days to be delivered and there was no damage whatsoever. Very pleased about that.

From the quick glance I had, it seems like this is the first ASP.NET book I have, which doesn't seem to 'require' VS.NET. I've got a few other ASP.NET books, but I've never read those (unfortunately), because they all center around VS.NET and I haven't got that. Definitely a plus-point for this book!

If my first impression is correct, then this summer I'll be plowing through the book, finally learning ASP.NET
