Tshirt printing

Hi

I need some info about tshirt printing.

First of all what type of tshirt printing is the best and highest quality?

Second what is the best places to buy the blank tshirts (UK only)?

Third, Does anyone know of any tshirt printers in the Liverpool / UK area?

THanks

A few years ago, my son worked in a T shirt shop at Pier 39, a local tourist place here in San Francisco. They did custom printing. Lots of silkscreening, other things.

He will be home the day after Christmas from Kansas City.

eMail me and I will ask him to reply. edshuck@noevalley.com

all the best for now and they new year.

Good thread!
Been wondering about this myself as well.

I'm looking for a place where I can get some text on my blank t-shirts...

Does anyone know if there are places where they do something like that and what the cost would be per individual t-shirt.

I'm in Amsterdam, so UK stuff won't really help me here, but general comments are very welcome!

PS: Hope you don't mind me leeching on to your thread, cmfmedia!

as far as getting HIGH quality blanks t-shirts and other apparel I order from http://www.americanapparel.net

as far as getting them printed I have found two local printing companies that do custom silk screen printing. or I use my school's silk screen printing lab. I would recommend just looking for someone local, you will probably get better rates, especially if it's a small one time run job.

I would highly avoid places like www.cafepress.com since their printing tends to wear off in like 5 washes.

good luck though.

My website may be able to answer some of your questions. Visit http://www.silkscreenbiz.com for more information on t-shirt printing (specifically screen printing). Most people agree that screen-printed t-shirts produce the highest quality t-shirts.

Another good resource with links to major industry suppliers, etc. is http://www.screenprinters.net/links.php. They will have some links to wholesalers and vendors in the UK.

I hope this helps,

Ryan

Thx for the links.

But to be honest, spending $900 isn't really an option for me now... I'm looking for some cheaper way to make some shirts, but I'll look into the site more.

I've used a company in the past for embroidery. Based in the US, fairly inexpensive, ten-year guarantee on shirts:

http://www.queensboro.com/

I might have to take them up on the ten-year guarantee, though. Most of the shirts wore through after two years.

Actually, they're meant more for employees to wear.

And their site makes a big deal about how their shirts are of a quality comparable to that of Izod-Lacoste or Land's End (their competitor).

AND they do say "ten-year guarantee."

I've got a lot of experience with t-shirts. Here's the breakdown:

Cost depends on 4 things:

# of shirts
how many ink colors you want (most important)
color of shirt
quality of shirt

First, number of shirts. Cost per shirt goes down with quantity of shirts ordered. Most places won't do less than 12. That will likely run you at least $180, but cost per shirt goes down considerably after 25, 50, etc.

Number of colors.
This is very important. Each color usually requires a new "screen" for silk screening. Most t-shirts have 4-5 colors at least, and don't forget that the front counts separately. So to keep your costs down, go with minimal colors. I usually have one color (white), and have it on a colored t-shirt.
Another thing to keep costs down is to have a blended color. For example, have a floral pattern with a red --> yellow blend. The colors will end up going red to orange to yellow, but as far as the screen shop is concerned, it's only one screen to set up, which costs less.

T-shirt color.
Anything other than white or ash will cost more, but if you have only white as your ink color, it should be acceptable. Keep in mind if you have an elaborate design, factor the color white in to your ink.

Quality of shirt
Always go with a Hanes "Beefy T". They cost more but last longer and people won't wear shirts if they are flimsy.

Also, if you provide your own artwork in a vector based format, you can usually negotiate a cheaper setup cost.

I wouldn't do anything on the web unless you can talk to somebody face to face or at least on the phone. I get the best deals from the mom & pop shops who can cut you a deal if you haggle a little with them.
