Which Javascript Library Is The Best/Most Popular?

When you look around there are basically three javascript libraries/frameworks in common use:
  • Prototype
  • MooTools
  • jQuery
Now jQuery seems to be mentioned a lot more recently (SitePoint even have a book out about in due out mid Dec (any Sitepoint staff who read this post able to confirm a release date for the book). Has jQuery taken over now as the library/framework to use? Are both Protype and MooTools on the way out in terms of usage?

From what I can tell, it appears that jQuery is by far the most popular framework out there. Everything I look at seems to be coded with it.

I have no idea what is best, but for a n00b like myself jQuery is generally easier to handle as there seems to be a lot more information/examples out there for it.

jquery is the most popular. The recent support of microsoft and nokia will further push its popularity.

"Best" is too subjective though. Do a search.

jQuery is the most popular, however it's not about using the favourite one, you should use a framework based on whether it will do the job you need. There's a lot more JavaScript frameworks out there apart from those mentioned here which are gaining momentum, examples of these include script.alicio.us, YUI, Ext and BBC Glow
