SharePoint Menu / table vs li

Heey peeps.

I just got hire to do some frontend developing on a sharepoint solution, ie make a .master, from a existing design. But i feel like asp.net is pulling my leg here.

How the F can you make a normal listed menu with this? There is no way i can make this table-hell look like the design.

And guys with sharepoint experince, who know how to make sharepoint output a lovly <ul><li> menu structure?
