Wasn't real sure where to put this thread so mods please feel free to move.
I work in a satellite office of a print broker/web design/graphic design/marketing agency in a major metro city, while the main office has another web designer who works about 2 hours out of the city in a more rural setting (we are the only two web designers). He is in an area in which most companies are getting their first real website, so to them any website is pretty impressive. Our company has about 12 employees total. The other designer ONLY uses dreamweaver with table based layouts, and with all due respect to him sometimes his sites appear "cookie-cutter" and non personalized. While I code by hand with css layouts, can edit layouts of existing websites, create online shopping carts, and try to keep up with current web looks and standards. I guess basically my main questions are 1. How can I show my non-tech savvy boss who is more sales/account rep oriented (also from 2 hours outside of metro) why keeping up with web standards and avoiding html table layouts are important, without putting down the other web designer. 2. Sometimes I get frustrated because the layouts I do are very "with the times" but my boss seems to focus on the wrong things in layouts. They sometimes think they look too "techy" but the problem is all they know of website looks are sites they have seen from the above mentioned designer. Thanks ahead of time! |
