Segway is making a car

Segway and GM are teaming up to make a car so small it is dwarfed by the smart cars. Its only got 2 wheels and balances like a regular Segway. What do you guys think? would you drive one? I would be paranoid about tipping over or even worse what happens when you crash?

I saw that on TV last night. Looks pretty unstable to me, one wind gust on the bridge and the thing starts rolling. There used to be this 3 wheel car, the Isetta, that was better and stable

I'd get one. For most of where I go it would be perfect?

It looks like a spaceage rickshaw, I recon it would actually do very well in Asia where those tuktuk battery powered cab's are so popular.

This will save GM for sure.

No, I would not buy one (unless they are real, real cheap) but yes I would test drive one up and down my street a few times.

Practicality, yes. But style too, dammit !

How does that compare to this beauty ?...

Why do all these eco-friendly cars have to look so... so... dorky.

I'd rather ride a bicycle.

Same two wheels. No lameness.

Why do people place so much value in how "stylish" their car is?

And added to that... cars are truckin' expensive! And for my money, I'd like something as attractive as it is useful.

Doesn't mean a jalopy car wouldn't be as useful... but why not have both ?

My original comment was not directed towards you personally.

men looking at women = human nature
desire for stylish car = learned behavior

By no means am I suggesting a car needs to be ugly to meet my standards. I think my car looks okay, but I do not attach alot of self worth to it's appearance. It is simply a tool that currently meets my needs.

But if you could have a more cool-looking tool that met the same needs at the same price wouldn't you go for it ?

Even if it's just a matter of wanting the red one instead of the black one ?

It's not about self-worth (for most people). It's about wanting the best you can get... that's a very innate human behaviour.

If you went to buy T-shirts, all things equal, wouldn't you choose the one with the print you liked the most ?

Segway has produced and delivered some 60,000 electric scooters since inception in 2002, so they know a thing or two about lithium ion battery supply and management technologies. With GM ’s backing, and a new administration keen to develop green initiatives one can forgive a little hype in their promotional material. The vehicle is a fully functioning prototype at the moment and not set to go on sale before 2012 when the cost is predicted to be 25-35% of the price of a small automobile.
