Is there any Anchor Text Google penalty?

I have some backlinks from article directories, I have used 3 to 4 keywords in some of the links in the end of the articles.

My question, is there any google anchor text penalty? If yes, then how many anchor text words in one link is too much?

No, there's definitely no penalty for such a thing.

There won't be a panatly for the amount of text in the title attribute, however don't repeat keywords over and over in it. You will get penalised for that.

Dont stuff it full of keywords, use it for what it was made, to describe the link (or whatever).

You won't. At worst it will be ignored.

If Google penalised for something like this then there would be nothing stopping me from doing this to all my competitors and watching their rankings drop

But it's good advice nevertheless as anchor text should be descriptive but not spammy.

I think we are talking about different things (again) I can almost guarantee you jamming a page full of target keywords (including the title attribute) will hurt your ranking.

I think you think I'm saying it will harm the site your linking to's ranking. Your right it won't otherwise you could drop other people's ranking.

I'm talking about the site that has the link in place, you're talking about the site that is being linked to from that link

Yeah, the original poster is talking about backlinks from directories though

But I completely agree with your other comments as content should always be naturally written hence my previous comment about it being good advice regardless of whether the content is onsite or offsite

Thanks for your replies. How many words in anchor text will considered as spam?

Once you hit a certain point you've diluted any value that anchor text may have had making it worthless. There doesn't even have to be a spam filter for it. It just naturally works.

If you use just the right amount of anchor text necessary to tell your visitors what the destination page is about, you don't need to worry about this question.
