Get inbound links sponsoring wordpress themes

There is a way to get inbound links to your for little or nothing.
I first read about this on a random blog.
The idea is to find a web designer that is selling footer sponsorship links at the bottom of open source themes that they have designed for Wordpress/joomla/drupal or other Opensource software.
These links are generally about 35.00 to 65.00 each and there are about 3 links at the bottom of each theme.

The themes are uploaded to various sites that allow you to download themes for free.

Some themes on sites have been downloaded over 10000 times.
Because your link is at the bottom of the theme and because of GPL rules anyone downloading the theme should not to remove the links, because the site was designed with the links.

To make sure the links are not removed some developers have made a point of encrypting the php in the footer.....

There are at least 15 sites that host and allow you to download wordpress or other themes. If the theme that you sponsored is downloaded 20 times from each of those sites you are looking at 300+ plus backlinks to your site.

sponsor links

I thought sponsored themes were over. Or is it just for themes on the "official" WordPress sites? http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/07...hemes-are-out/

Hmmm.... sounds interesting. But, how does one find a young, strapping, talented web designer? That issue was somehow not very fully explained in your post. Looking forward,

It is not really finding the designer it is finding the themes to sponsor. You can find these themes here and on Digital point

I'm not a GPL "expert" by any means, but I thought the GPL allowed code modifications (for use, not distribution). I googled a bit, but couldn't find it. Please quote the rule that applys here. Thanks.

That is true GPL does allow to modify code but one should not remove the designers links from the bottom of the theme. IT can be done, but in a perfect world you would HOPE that they would keep the links intact. I know for a fact that does not happen.

theme links

The theme I'm using for my blog has "Powered by" and "Design by" links in the footer. It would feel wrong to me to remove them. Keeping them seems to be the least I can do considering someone else did all the work and made it available for free. The only way I would feel comfortable removing them is if I stripped the theme down to it's skeleton and modified it so much that in essence it became my own. And even then I would include a "derived from, thanks to", type of statement somewhere.

Which is where probably 95% of all the themes are downloaded from.

It's not an effective strategy anymore.

I would agree with you to a point but simply doing a search for wordpress themes you will find a multitude of sites offering themes.
Not everyone is like us. I spend 10 hours if not more online. I would never build a long affiliate page or better sign up for email from one of those affiliate marketers......... but there are people that do.
There will be people that download the themes there are people that are new to all of this....... everyday someone is new and green.
