Informative article. I wasn't aware of eZ Systems before and now our company is investigating the possibility of using it to power our website. Good read!

Very interesting. I've got eZ successfully installed, and I'm now digging through the docs and files.

I have a need for an extranet for a design company which will allow designers to post files for clients to preview. The catch is that I need to completely hide client A's files from client B and so on for many clients. Does anyone out there have any experience configuring eZ to use like this, or should I look elsewhere?

Pixelguru, what you can do is to for example create one folder for each client. In these folders you can put all the content which is specific for that client. You then assign a new section for each folder, create the sections as briefly described in the article under the area 51 part.

You then need to create a new role for each company which has read permission to everything in the section you have assigned to the companys folder.

Hope this answered your question.

Yes, eZ publish can be used for intranets accessed via the Internet. This is normally called an extranet.

Great article! I hear there are problems with certain versions of Apache and webdav. Which build of Apache and mod_dav would you recommend to replicate the system described?

Thumbs up

I like the look of ez publish and thanks for the tutorial.
but the changing of php.ini to allow for more memory is something that a lot of people on fairly cheap shared hosting won't be able to avail of.

Is it possible to run a subset of ez pub in a default php installation?

Scoby, you need to run eZ publish as a whole. You cannot run only parts of it. However with eZ publish 3.5 it should be simpler to get it installed an running on a normal PHP hosting server. You shouldn't need to change php.ini nor the httpd.conf to get this running.

Martin, we do not use the Apache mod_dav module. The WebDav library is written in eZ publish so you do not need to have any extra modules for Apache to get this up and running.

Excellent article. I'm after an alternative to MS Sharepoint at the moment for running a simple, WebDAV-enabled file repository and this looks like it might fit the bill nicely (or no?).

Question - if you don't use mod_dav, do you support https access via webDAV?

Before using the addition VirtualHost section, check the NameVirtualHost setting in httpd.conf. Without this setting, the additional VH Section is not executed at all.
