The article was good, but not great by the standards of other SitePoint articles. I'd say it is good reading as a introductory primer, which I suspect is what it was supposed to be.

In all honesty, I personally had to disable Flash about a month ago on my computer because some Flash ads kept crashing my browser. I don't know why this was happening, but since I almost never have a desire to view Flash content it wasn't worth trying to fix.

I will say I have seen some incredible and highly effective uses of Flash. One example is the "design a set" feature at: http://www.cedarworks.com/. I saw a presentation on this site at a conference I was at a few years ago and I was absolutly amazed. You can actually design your cedar playground set on-line via their Flash module and submit it for an estimate online. A couple days later you will receive a personalized quote for your playground set. That site is the way Flash should be used not, stupid eye candy. I'm sure, however, that that functionality cost a very pretty penny.

It also talks about Flash 5... The current version is Flash MX 2004 Pro, with Flash MX and Flash MX 2004 inbetween.
