Spelling mistake at the bottom - "reatails". Still a good review - well done.

Excellent Mac suprise! Glad to hear of it and I am sure any user of any platform could benefit from this. Being a researcher/writer as well as technologist - this looks like just what I need. Perhaps it will shift me off of movable type...?

Coming for Windows, too

Don't worry -- Tinderbox for Windows is coming, soon!

Thanks for the good review and in advance for some help.

I downloaded your sample, but I do not know what to do to use it. I have the Tinderbox demo. I see the Sitepoint Tinderbox Sample is a Unix Executable File. Should I be doing something with it? Everything is grayed out if I try to open in Tinderbox.

Great to hear from this. I think this kind of software is just what we need in this era full of information.

Is it possible to compare it with The Brain?

Hey bmurray, Tinderbox uses a special Mac file resource to tell the OS that it's a tinderbox file. This gets lost in the Zip.

To open up the file, use the option-click "open with" option.

May indeed increase productivity which is fine I suppose, though it removes the flexibility that us developer's have to offer, that this software doesn't.

ie I think the things are headed, this style of content generation and management is at some point in the future, going to kill off a lot of developers.

So what you may ask ? But do you really want to see every other web site you visit, in the exact same mould?

It's already beginning to happen with the like of Movable Type

To use the example file, rename the file called Sitepoint Tinderbox Sample to Sitepoint Tinderbox Sample.xml, then open in TB. Czwieb

since I don't have a Mac (yet). I can't try out Tinderbox immediately but it seems very simlar to a program that's been out for a while for Windows - http://www.thebrain.com/
look for the Personal edition $80

for requiemShark: Nope. I looked at thebrain web site. From what I could tell, thebrain is to a pc what OS X is to a Mac. Tinderbox is a creative Tool, not an operating system replacement.

I am a user of both Tinderbox and TheBrain. They are not the same.

The Brain has a dynamic interface that re-drws the map (plex, they call it) as you navigate. Tinderbox's Map view is static.
But Tinderbox has many other views which make navigating linked items (thoughts in the Brain = Notes in TB).

Complex to summarise the differences - The Brain is not for Website building, it is very good for browsing content and capturing content from the web.
Tinderbox is very good for building weblogs and small websites, writing documents and other applications where networks are suitable models for the content.
