This JavaScript provided by SitePoint ScriptMaster: "Flash Script -- Pop-up Windows in Flash" works great - Thank you. But... not if the person visiting your web site does not have the same monitor display settings as you.
I have my monitor display set to 1024 x768. The pop-up window that launches from Flash using this JavaScript sets the size and position of the pop-up on my monitor screen. I used coordinates and size that look great at 1024 x 768 -- until I change the monitor display settings to 800 x 600. At 800 x 600 (which seems to be the setting that about 27% of the hits I'm getting on my site use) the pop-up window appears way too large and runs off the screen to the left. Is there a work around for this? Is there a "sniffer" that can be placed in the html that will determine the screen size of the user. Is there JavaScript that can be added to the existing script that will use this "sniffed" info and (possibly with an if/or statement) launch the correct size for 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600? Failing the above... is there JavaScript that will center the pop-up on a display rather than set coordinates from the top and left? Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Shippy |

How about if you need to pass a variable from the flash movie to the new window?
at the moment i've got: getURL("xml.php?data=" + myDocument, "_blank", "POST") any ideas? |

Thanks for the script, but there's one obvious error. All Flash buttons need an "on" assignment.
The getURL script you provided works for a frame of a movie, which is fine. But on a button, it produces a syntax. Add something like "on (release) {" at the front and it'll be perfect. =] |

I would also like to know if it's possible to use scrollbars in the pop-up.

Hi,
Yes if the dimesion of your swf file including/excluding the HTML content goes beyond the bounds of your pop up window. |

Great script. I'm wondering if the resulting pop-up can be made to stay on top of other windows until it is closed by the user. AND, is it possible for the content to pop-up in the same window rather than a new window for each click? Thanks again.

Is it possible to create a popup (and still control the popup window size and location) without using javascript in a flash link? Could you provide an example?

Add the on(release) function to your action, and it should work fine.

The script works in Flash MX, but only IE can open popup window. In Mozilla doesn't work. Can the script be modified for Mozilla?

Yeah I can't get flash 8 to respond to this popup either. It comes up as a normal html full size document in the same browser window

I am trying to get this to work in Flash CS3 (saving as Flash 8) but I get an IE error: "Internet Explorer cannot download" when I test in Preview and I get an "object expected" error when I run the HTML in IE. The popup file is called "stuff.html" and I used your code, substituting only the HTML file name. Any help? Thanks.
