Angry uninstalling apache

Hi

this is soo annoying

im using windows vista and i installed apache and it said the installation was successful however the apache monitor in my taskbar was red and said "no services installed" and localhost on my browser was not working

so i figured the problem must be that in the installation i set it to port 8080 instead of 80. I then went to control panel>programs installed and tried to remove apache but there was no listing of apache there

so then i just tried re-installing over the installation and this time i selected port 80 and it installed and the apache monitor now reads "Running all apache services" but when i type localhost in my browser it doesnt work

when i go to my httpd.conf file it says this

#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8080

should this say Listen 80 instead?

i tried editing it to 80 but it gives me an error when i try to save the file which read "access to c:\...httpd.conf was denied"

im thinking i may need to uninstall and do a fresh installation but i dont know how to uninstall because apache isnt listed in my control panel programs list

helppppp!!!

mari,

M$ doesn't like for people to use Apache. Because of that, M$ has IIS enabled on port 80 so, to use Apache, IIS has to be stopped and its autostart turned off BEFORE Apache can be installed on port 80. When that happens, it should (obviously) listen to port 80.

I think Vista is a bit nastier than XP about permissions so you need to ensure that you're installing as the administrator, too, which would then require that any edits to the Apache installation must be made as the administrator.

Regards,

DK

mari,

Sure, use WinDoze's program install/uninstall so it cleans the registry, too.

mari,

If WinDoze doesn't know it's installed, then it clearly isn't installed.

Okay, try going to the Start | Run | services.msc and looking for Apache there. If it's not in services either, then I suppose that all you need to do is to delete the directory it may (or may not) have created.

THEN start over with shutting down IIS (and preventing its autostart) before installing Apache iaw Kevin Yank's checklist (Chapter 1).

Regards,

DK
