I want to make my site active and lively again. However to make this as easy and possible I think that I will need to use a CMS rather than editing everything manually like I have been doing for the past 5 years.

Please take a look at my current site and look at the pages and forum

What would you recommend for me to use out of the CMS (or any other cms)?

Primarily I want something that won't be visually to different to what I have now in terms of content creation.

Another question is how can I redirect my current content to their new locations on the new cms sitwe without losing my search ranks etc.

I appreciate all comments!

I don't know Subdreamer... so no comment on that one. When it comes to Joomla and Drupal - I used to work with Joomla when I started with CMS and stuff and I don't like it anymore. It is just a personal decision so don't rely on this... with Drupal I am happy :-)

your goal to maintain your design can be achieved with nearly every CMS and you should test some of them to see if they fit your needs. When it comes to SEO that'll be easy again with nearly every CMS if you dive into URL Rewriting with mod_rewrite or something as every ongoing CMS has this functionality built in and you can modify the htaccess file to your needs.

You should set up a long term strategic plan. How do you plan to develop your site? If that's ready, then you should look around both Joomla and Drupal to choose which CMS's components and modules are capable to accomplish your long term targets.

In a short term plan, you should take a look how can you import your existing design to Joomla or Drupal.

I agree with LarsK that both CMS are capable to redirect the existing URLs.

Yes, both Joomla and Drupal are excellent choices for you. Joomla is a bit easier to use than Drupal, however I prefer Drupal. If you prefer simplicity and ease of use check cmsmadesimple also. Maybe you'll find these reviews of various CMSs useful.

If you have motivation, use drupal you'll never regret it, otherwise, use anything else.

I will go with drupal. It is not too hard to migrate your html to drupal without losing your sites' ranking
