strange results from msn

I recently submitted a page to msn through www.positiontech.com. In the past I have had good results with msn gaining top 10 positions on many pages.

But this time I have submitted 2 sites, and neither have even managed to get into the top 500. I know my site is indexed because when i type in the url it comes up.

I have put the targeted phrase in the title, alt tags, meta description and on the actual page itself.

The funny thing is one of the meta tags actually comes up no 374. But what i have targeted on doesn't come up at all!!

The url is submitted is www.simplyfindfriends.com/index.asp.

Does the fact that it is an ASP page put them off? It shouldn't since the other site isn't ASP and that hasn't been coming up properly either.

Any ideas??!!

Hi

When you submit to positiontech.com, you get listed on MSN through Inktomi.

I don’t know what your keywords are but this is my guess.

The first listings are under the gray heading named sponsored sites These are sites coming from overture.

Then the other bunch of listing are coming under the subheading WEB DIRECTORY SITES. These are sites coming from Looksmart.

Then, maybe a few page later, you get listings coming from web pages. These are the listings coming from Inktomi. So if you submitted to Positiontech.com, then you may be #1 on Inktomi and under this subheading. If you want to get a top ranking on the first page, you may want to consider Overture or inktomi.

The thing is in the past i have achieved top 10 positions through submitting through positiontech.

But now i can't even get in the top 500 for my chosen keywords. But i get in no 374 for a term i haven't even optimised for!!

How do u explain that!

Go and take a look at your listing. If you tell me that you can see sites under web pages listed on the first page but you’re #500, then this is another story. Then I’d recommend you rethink your optimization strategy. But if you’re #1 under web pages but you’re listed on page 10, then congratulation, you’ve optimized your site for Inktomi perfectly. It’s just that MSN starts to list sites from Inktomi once it’s done with Looksmart. I hope I am making sense here.

That’s quite common. You may have optimized for a key phrase that is competitive and harder to get a top ranking for. Then you discovered that you’re #1 for a key phrase that you haven’t optimized for, and which is less competitive. On all my SEO projects, bar none, I have found my sites getting #1 - #20 top rankings on key phrases I never targeted. I’m #16 under the key phrase french website traffic, which is a key phrase I never thought to optimize for.

#374 is not that hard to get for any keyword. I never check my terms past the third page. I have #5 on msn to "ti calculator games" and #58 for "freebies". Also I have decent rankings for a few other keywords.

But what I'm saying is that i am no 374 for a phrase i haven't even targeted for. The only place it is is in my meta tags. And also for msn buddies i am no 20!! The same applies there.

But the phrase i HAVE targeted for is in the title, meta tags, alt tags and in the text.

So why can I not been seen at all for the targeted phrase but yet get position 20 for a phrase that i haven't targeted for!!

It doesn't make sense. I even put the search up to 999 and it still wasn't found.

I think there must be something seriously wrong with the database because in the past i have succesfully got top 10 positions for targeted keywords using the exact same method i have here.

Hi again,

What's the keyword? I need to take a look at it to know what's going on.

Since you've submitted your site from positiontech.com, you must be listed on MSN through Inktomi. So this is my understanding. If you could tell us what your key phrase is, then maybe we can better help you.
