Question I need a script for submitting stories, rating them, put them in a league table!

i have just started a new project, it can be found here:

http://www.whackystories.com/

Only started yesterday so its still very basic, just the design in place.

HOWEVER, i am going to need a script to get this going. What i need, is something that will allow:

1. Users to submit their stories from whatever area they like, IE Drunken Holidays. This will join that database and be listed with the rest.

2. The ability for others to rate these stories

3. Carrying on from above, once rated, these all fall into a league table, probably one for each section, and one for all together.

I think this covers EVERYTHING i do need, to make it truly fantastic.

I would imagine this is best to be a SQL/PHP script, but i have searched with no luck.

Last time i asked here someone actually created a script for me which is still going!

I would imagine the above does exist, there is plenty of sites similar on this idea of script, im sure hotornot.com is one that would basically be seen to be "similar" if not identical.

Thanks in advance for any feedback

Have you explored the wonders of HotScripts.com and ResourceIndex.com? I know there are scripts that will accomplish bits and pieces of your needs, but I know of nothing that'll do it all for you in one. Particularly when you get to your third point, you are probably looking at something so customized you'll have to either pay for it or write it yourself.

Can someone give me an idea of at least something to submit stories for now?

League table stuff can come later if need be, but just to get the stories going would make me happy for now

Well, this is exactly the kind of thing covered in Kevin Yank's book that you'll see advertised all over sitepoint and any number of people (like me) will tell you that it is great stuff.

With this book and determination, you could have your site built, from top to bottom in maybe 2 weeks to 2 months.

However, if you want a bottled solution, check out:

Postnuke

PHPNuke
http://www.phpnuke.org/

I'm not sure if either has a rating system but they are worth a look.

Thanks mate i might try and find that.

Its turning out to be far harder to just get this in place than i thought. my other site splfever.co.uk fell into place far easier!!!

I think phpnuke.org is good. Seems like they have everything you need and it's pretty easy to install too

I'll re-assert my endorsement of Kevin Yank's book:
Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL
http://sitepoint.com/books/?bookid=PHP-MSQL

Once you learn the fundamentals, problems that seem insurmountable become easy. If you plan on making more web sites in the future, this book would be a great investment in both money and your time.
