Apache 2.0.35 uninstall how to?

Here's the jist: I'm using windozeXP and apache 2.0.35

I had problems with my apache service not working correctly(the symptoms you ask: I would open up internet explorer and type in "localhost, my computername, or 127.0.0.1 in the url and all I would get was a message telling me it could not find the page"). So doing the only thing I know to do, I uninstalled apache and then reinstalled it. And now I can't start the apache service "AT ALL."

Does anyone know "all" the little quirks that need to be taken care of when uninstalling apache.

I've already went to the control panel and did the whole uninstall thing, but now that I've reinstalled apache I have no service at all.

And yes, I know that it leaves the installed directory behind. And then it leaves your htdocs, logs, and httpd.conf files. And I just leave those there because when I reninstalled, those files are conserved and that's good.

But, check this out for example. You know how apache places a "monitor services" icon in your task bar? Well, now that I've reinstalled, it claims I don't have any services installed when I let my mouse set above it.
Plus, when I uninstalled apache it did not get rid of this old "apache service monitor," which is what I was just talking about letting my mouse hover over. Does anyone know how to get rid of that when uninstalling? If you didn't follow that, I'm talking about the little feather in the task bar at the bottom right of the computer screen.

I know how I installed apache the first 20 or 30 times and I've done the same as worked before. I don't know, maybe my problems are coming from my operating system itself. It has been acting awfully awry lately.

Here's a couple other things:
If I go to system information and then click on services. Apache is simply not there. Also, when I go -> start, programs, apache, control apache server, start. It just flashes a black shell quickly and then it's gone and still no service.

Man, I hope I can get this working again without having to do a fresh install. It's too bad I'm so married to windows or I definately go to linux. I hear it is much more stable. Used it a couple of times and it did seem to be. Just didn't have the feel I'm so used to though. A big thankyou for any replies!
Sometimes computers just drive me nuts!

I dont know if this will work...but after uninstallation, delete the apache folder you had previously installed apache to and reinstall and reconfigure again.

Thanks, astericicks for the reply. I tried what you said but, still nothing. I cannot get apache to run.

Apache should run on a windows box when you restart your computer if you choose that option when installing which I did. But when I restarted my computer the apache service does not start. So, my next step is to try and start it manually. Go to "start, programs, apache http server xxxx, and so on until I get to the option to start apache. I click on this button and nothing happens. Well, not exactly, a black shell flashes once quickly and that's it. I digress and try to start apache again, this time through the icon in the task bar(you know, the little feathery thing). I click on this and it brings up an apache service monitor window with 7 options to choose from. Well, the one I'm interested in is the "start" button. But quess what, it's not available to click on. It's just greyed out so that you can't use it. This is true of the stop and start button options too.

I'm desperate here. Does anyone have any suggestions I might try before reinstalling my whole operating system? I've got so much stuff on my computer right now, I really don't want to have to reinstall windows. Ya, Ya, I know it's windows and that's just the routine that has to be gone through to fix system. Got a problem "reinstall."

There's got to be a better way. Does anyone have anything I might try? If you think there's a chance your suggestion might help, I'll try it. Please help and thanks alot.

What do you enter for Server Name and the other options (can't think what they are, one's email address but that's not important) when installing Apache?

Here's the fields to fill in:
Network Domain
Server Name
Administrators Email Address

I don't know where you are going with this, but I usually just type whatever in for these, along as they are syntactically correct.

For example:
Network Domain --> Me.net
Server Name--> www.Me.net
Administrators Email Address-->Justme@me.net

After those fields you have the choice between these two options:
Install Apache HTTP Server 2.0 programs and shortcuts for:
1)for All Users, on Port 80, as a Service--recommended
or
2)only for the Current User, on Port 8080, when started Manually.
I choose option #1 and then you choose between a typical or custom install and I choose typical. After that, you setup which directory to install too. And then, just press the install button.

So what are you thinking any ideas?

Should use localhost,localhost,admin@localhost. That is what I used and it works perfectly.

Anyway, to uninstall Apache 2.0.XX off your Windows machine, go into the Add/Remove Programs control panel and do it the right way. Deleting the folder is for bad Unix ports.

I have used entries like in my examples above and it worked before.(But I will try it) Matter of fact, it worked everytime and I've installed this puppy quite a few times when I first started playing around with it. Also, here is an interesting note: When installing it gives examples for these fields and the examples are as follows:
somenet.net
www.somenet.net
webmaster@somenet.net
Unless you know something I don't know, I don't "think" this matters. But then again, I don't know.

Also W.Luke, that is how I uninstalled. After you do the uninstall it leaves your htdocs directory and such so you don't loose all of your important developed files. Anyway, I deleted these directories too. Thinking that is all there is to removing it all, I quess. But something has gone awry.

I'm going to try a few ideas I have and then get back to ya. It might be a couple of days though, I'm pretty busy recently.

Thanks for the support. I love Sitepoint Forums!

(Is there someway I can post urls without them actually showing up as links? Thanks)

A little late to the game but I ran into the same *exact* problem today. Had to reinstall Apache; lo and behold, 'no service installed' is what I get. Same issue.

I've gone as far as deleting registry entries. And still nothing. Grrrrr.

Talking Problem uninstalling Apache

I ran into the same problem and was able to fix it , here is how to fix the problem.

under windows there is a folder called "prefetch" within that folder are two files, both with the name "apache" in them , one is for the apache.exe the other is for hte monitorl. You need to remove both of these and then you can install apache with no problems.
