Google doesn't like my main keyword
Hi guys,
I've been trying to optimise this site for a few months now. Since I started the rankings went down then up and last month we had our highest hits yet and also the business had a record week. I started by cleaning up the code - moved a hell of a lot of javascript to external files and spent a couple of days redesigning the main template from messy tables to less messy (but had to use hacks) CSS and XHTML. I also tried to optimise the content by introducing the main keywords I wanted, made use of heading tags, title and alt attributes. For the main keyword 'workwear' the site ranked around 40-50 in google.co.uk, after I started the rankings took a massive turn and we were more or less oblitered aff the face of the SERP's - we're talking like 500+, it went down to 100+ and eventually, like a month ago it went back aroun 40-50. I've managed to get a #1 ranking for 'office workwear' and 'customised workwear', while 'office uniforms' is at #2 in google.co.uk. More importantly I got 'workwear' and 'office uniforms' to #1 in yahoo.co.uk and 'workwear' to #4 in msn.co.uk. I have been submitting to directories and attempting to get backlinks. Our #1 competitors website isn't optimised and doesn't really have a massive amount of links. Google just doesn't seem to want to know about moving us up the SERP's for our main keyword. Has anyone any tips or ideas? I was using the linkdomain and -linkdomain tool on msn and yahoo to check backlinks, I notice we have quite a few from some of our 'sister' sites that a previous SEO company created and attempted to pass on as SEO - will this hurt our rankings? The site is www.myworkwear.co.uk, have a look! |
