CMS scripts for multiple sites

Hi, I'm researching CMS solutions for the company I'm working for. They want a single CMS install to handle all their websites (of which there are probably two dozen at the moment and more to be added). Currently they use Interwoven but are looking for something that's easier for "newbies" to use. The sites consist of mostly articles, sometimes there'll be a blog, etc.

So, basic requirements:
- use one install to manage many different domains
- customizable (diff sites have very diff designs)
- easy to use admin interface

Should really also have:
- multi-language support
- built-in blogging / comment system

Would be nice:
- written in PHP/MySQL
- plugin system
- easily upgradeable
- ability to import data from Interwoven (prolly dreaming here!)

Cost isn't really a factor ... free is fine of course but really $$$/yr or /mth is fine with them too if that's what is required.

So far I've been looking at:
Big Medium ( www.globalmoxie.com ) ... definitely supports multiple domains, but seems limited feature-wise and is written in Perl
MODx ( www.modxcms.com ) ... seems pretty good but sounds like it would take a lot of time to customize properly
Joombla ( www.joombla.org )
Drupal ( www.drupal.org )
As well as e107, Typo3, MySource Matrix and others ...

It's so confusing, there are SO many different options! Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! (Note again this doesn't need to be free, the company is currently using Interwoven which costs $$$$!)

I highly recommend Drupal. It provides everything that you've mentioned and is quite simple and easy to set up and administer, if you're at least a decent programmer.

I have a couple of Drupal sites in development and I'm really quite pleased with it.

I would throw eZpublish into that mix to look at too - http://www.ez.no

I use it and have found it really really good.

Hi thanks for the replies so far. I looked at eZ Publish and Drupal, unforunately neither seems to support multiple domains/sites with a single install, unless I am just not seeing that feature (I tried the admin interfaces at opensourcecms.com). Multiple domains with one install of the CMS script is a critical feature since there would be two dozen or so sites using whatever CMS the company ends up getting, and doing that many installs (and that many updates/patches) would be too time consuming and cumbersome ... any other recommendations (free or paid or even remotely hosted) would be appreciated, thanks again!

Drupal actually can support multiple sites/domains with one central installation. I tried googling for this feature but was only able to find one page that describes this. I'd look around more for you but I'm pretty busy this morning

Try searching the Drupal site for more information. I know for a fact that this is a key feature of Drupal.

Ah cools I didn't see anything about it on the Drupal site, looks promising. I'll have to give Drupal a close look, thanks!

You can do this with eZpublish using a number of different siteaccesses.

Here is how to do it from the documentation
http://ez.no/products/ez_publish/doc...ion/multi_site

and here's a forum topic about doing what you're after:
http://ez.no/community/forum/install...install_please

Cheers
