Need help with www.xyz.org vs xyz.org

I have a site and I need some help figuring out how to fix this problem. The site can be accessed by xyz.org or www.xyz.org. I want the xyz.org to be forwarded to www.xyz.org because I think the split could be affecting my PR in a negative way. .htaccess does not function on my server. What other ways are there or what do I need to have my server guy do to enable me to do this. My PR is 6 and I want to get it up a notch, I'm hoping this along with other changes will get me there.

Thanks, Steve
