Does anybody know what happened or happens to "Hailstorm" or .NET My Services project? All my attempts to find something in the Web bring me documents dated 2001, not later...

Microsoft pretty much abandoned it because too many people were concerned about privacy issues. You can still integrate Passport into your app if I remember correctly, but very few people use it.

Yes, but it seemed from those 2001 papers that the idea was much bigger than just the passport. Although they were rather vague, to be honest...
I saw some time ago an outdated invitation by Microsoft, as far as I remember they were inviting developers to provide some content and promised $10K as a prize. Somehow I thought that it was about this forgotten project. Do you remember anything loke this, a couple of months ago? |

.NET My Services are still in use especially within the MSN Explorer app. Agreed it hasn't gained the steam Microsoft would have liked but the collection of My Money, My Horoscope, My Weather, My Favorites, My Devices, etc. are still being used and can still be programmed against today.
The term My Services didn't say much for the technology and since Microsoft has backed out of the term and has gone with the traditional and all ecompassing .NET XML Web Services which is much more broad and less constricting than the .NET My Services term. Unless you work for a large wireless company, you really shouldn't have a need to build off of the existing My Services Microsoft offers. |

Thanks, Zak, nice to hear from you. I am in the 10th chapter of your book right now, by the way. Very easy to read. And I like the idea of .NET. Actually going to convert to it from PHP

Thanks for buying the book, I'm glad you're enjoying it. It was somewhat difficult only because they ask you questions relating to problems that you're not used to seeing.
