    Adobe Announced new products

Adobe has announced new versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and InDesign.

I can't wait but why do we need a new version of Photoshop. Version 7 which I think is the best version just came out not even 8 months ago. Well here is the link

You need a new version of Photoshop because sales are stagnant. The only way to maintain revenues is to release yearly upgrades. This is the same model the car companies use to generate sales.

In addition Paint Shop Pro is now offering version 8 in beta form so Adobe wouldn't want to look like they are behind PSP. :gasp:

Actually, I'm more excited about this new feature set than the last one. V7 really was a 6.2 release. V8 may not be "full release" material, but it certainly does have some very useful improvements, at least for me, including:

    • Video Colour Palettes: This will be truly useful for me, as I hate having to save to Quicktime format, just to get colours to stay the same for Video :|
    • Nested Layer Sets: While I don't use layer sets nearly as much as I should (the more I design, the less layers I use nowadays), I can see this being truly useful.
    • Filter Layers: FINALLY! This was the most requested feature for v5-7, and Adobe finally pulled it off! This is one I'm very excited about, way more than the silly Heal Tool
    • Non-square pixels... Finally, I can't wait to see how this turns out, as it really would be a very different world

All in all, I'll still be waiting for more evaluations, but I'll definitely look at purchasing 8 (I didn't upgrade to v7, though we did at work)

I have 7 and its a dream being more vector based than 5. This one seems to have a lot of new vector tools like text to path. That will be a new awesome feature. Filter Layers will be really nice. Video Colors will also very useful to me. Overall I can't wait. I wonder what Illustrator is going to fee like!

I have the beta, Photoshop 8. Its nothing great. They are moving to a lot more video support. I can't say more, but I will say in OSX it is much faster.

As far as keeping up with Paint Shop, they could care less. Its more PSP keeping up with Photoshop then the other way around.

Yes, Photoshop 8 seems to be like the update that is worth of upgrading too if you're on Photoshop 6. The non-square pixels are very interesting but I can't imagine how things would look like then.
