    Netscape 4, or Netscape 6/7?

    The answer will be very different.

    Works fine in Mozilla 1.3 beta, which implies (but doesn't prove) that it will work fine in Netscape 7 and probably 6.

    yes, netscape 4.79 seems to just ignore the map. after a bit of tinkering, however, i found the solution: ensure that your 4 coordinates are in the order left,top, right,bottom...i.e. change
    Code:
      <area shape="rect" coords="157,323,46,348" href="http://bostonsbestband.com/index2.html" alt="FLASH" name="Flash">
      <area shape="rect" coords="294,323,184,348" href="http://bostonsbestband.com/home.html" alt="HTML" name="HTML">
    to

    Code:
      <area shape="rect" coords="46,323,157,348" href="http://bostonsbestband.com/index2.html" alt="FLASH" name="Flash">
      <area shape="rect" coords="184,323,294,348" href="http://bostonsbestband.com/home.html" alt="HTML" name="HTML">
    netscape seems to be fussy in that respect...
