    PHP and Zend

Does anyone use PHP and Zend?

Im looking at buying the Zend Small Business Package and wanted to get some feedback.

I ask because a person got a hold on my script and have been giving it away. He removed the "call home" feature so its impossible for me to track sites that could be using the illegal version so im looking at an encoder to give me some more security if I need to shut down a illegal site.

    Any feedback would be great.

The biggest disadvantage to Zend Encoder is that the host needs to have Zend Optimiser installed to run your scripts though most half-decent hosts support it.

Yes, but excuse me if you're wrong - root access is required for the installation (not a thing just everyone has).

Also in my opinion you'd be better off purchasing a copy of ioncube encoder instead.

Haven't used the encoder, but my experiences with Zend Studio(the demo, fully functional) were less than positive. If you decide to grab the Encoder, just buy it separately; don't bother with the whole package.

Mac I don't think the PC people have it much better though; it's still the same Java, from what I understand.

Though there still isn't a public SDK out for 1.4 on mac, we still 'officially' stuck with 1.3

1.4 is quite a bit faster.

1.3? On OS 9 maybe, I'm fairly sure OS X is somewhere in the 2s.

I meant the interface more than the speed in any case.

output from java -version on MacOSX 10.2.4:

    Code:
    java version "1.3.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1-root_1.3.1_020714-12:46)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_03-69, mixed mode)
I was talking about the JVM and it's API.

The reason i thought it sucked was it was too slow to bother exploring.

I guess it's fairly subjective. I've been using the latest release of Zend Studio (2.6) for a while now, and I absolutely love it. I do agree that it is a bit slow--that's the downside of running a JAVA app--but it has some nice features that make it worth putting up with the speed problems (for me).

However, I work mostly on large applications with a large amount of classes stored in different files, so that is one of the reasons I benefit from ZS's code completion and server debugging features. If I was working on a smaller project, I'm sure I'd just stick with TextPad. :-)

Yes, but if I'm not wrong, it costs money, which some hosts do not have.

the ionCube Encoder is much cheaper than Zend's. but there may be some caveats about using its loader.

BTW, Zend Optimizer is free, generally sucks, and is generally good-for-nothing but loading Zend Encoder files. Zend Accelerator = teh good.

PHP Accelerator works with ionCube Encoder + free = better than Zend Accelerator + Zend Optimizer

He purchased a license but he had trouble installing and ask for support, I was happy to give it to him but its impossible for me to find an error when all he would give me is "it doesnt install now". That's all I got for about 20 minutes and he was swearing at me for not telling him how to solve this error which I didn't know because of lack of info. Anyway, I refunded him and thats when he put my files online to be downloaded.
He then proceed to post messages to adult webmaster forums with login and password details on the files.

Yeah, it seems that way. The theif had the script installed the next day so he knows how to edit php.

I found a site today that was using my script and I questioned the ower, he sent me the zipped files and any text that said "boxxnet" was removed and the word "commerical version" was replaced with "free version".
