    Oh, the horror! (netscape 3)

    Checking my stats...

368 unique visitors have visited my site using Netscape 3!

That's about 1% of the visitors over the last month.

(nah, it's not the site in my sig)

Hehe - yeah I didn't think anyone even mentoned that browser anymore!

Although, I must admit, I have Netscape 2 on 3 floppy's... could be fun to confuse people by visiting a few times a day with it hehe

Hey, I can beat that! This year 22.68% of the visitors to my site have used Netscape 2.0. Your eyes are not tricking you. Yes, 2.0. Nearly, 2% are on NS 3.0. A lot of my visitors are from less privileged countries who don't have access to the latest technology. We are soooo spoiled (and shouldn't take it for granted).

No joke. That's why my site is pretty basic and mostly text.

that sure is a lot of percents...

if you want to confuse the stats, you don't need to install older browsers. just use mozilla/phoenix with the extension that lets you define custom UserAgent strings...

Since we started tracking visits at phpBBHacks.com with power phlogger several months ago (which you could say is primary webmaster and designers and developers), here is the top 20:

    IE 6.0; WinXP 48.6 %
    IE 6.0; Win2000 12.1 %
    IE 6.0; Win98 9.5 %
    IE 6.0; WinMe 3.3 %
    IE 5.01; Win2000 3.2 %
    IE 5.5; WinMe 2.8 %
    IE 5.0; Win98 2.6 %
    IE 5.5; Win2000 2.6 %
    IE 5.5; Win98 2.4 %
    IE 5.01; Win98 0.9 %
    IE 5.5; WinNT4.0 0.7 %
    OP 6.05; 0.6 %
    MZ 1.2; WinXP 0.5 %
    IE 6.0; WinNT4.0 0.5 %
    MZ 1.2; Win2000 0.4 %
    IE 5.22; MacPPC 0.4 %
    NS 3.01; 0.3 %
    IE 5.5; Win95 0.3 %
    MZ 1.3; WinXP 0.3 %
    MZ 1.0; Linux 0.3 %

Netscape is actually the 4th most used browser on that site.

KarateForums.com, which isn't for web people, has the following Top 20 (since we started using phpee several months ago):

    IE 6.0; WinXP 28 %
    IE 6.0; Win98 13.7 %
    IE 6.0; Win2000 8.9 %
    IE 5.0; Win98 7.8 %
    IE 5.5; WinMe 6.5 %
    IE 5.5; Win98 5.2 %
    IE 6.0; WinMe 4.5 %
    IE 5.5; Win2000 4.3 %
    IE 5.01; Win2000 3.7 %
    NS 3.01; 2.1 %
    IE 5.01; Win98 2 %
    IE 5.5; WinNT4.0 1.4 %
    IE 5.5; Win95 1 %
    IE 5.0; Win95 0.7 %
    IE 6.0; WinNT4.0 0.6 %
    IE 5.0; MacPPC 0.6 %
    IE 4.01; Win98 0.5 %
    IE 5.01; Win95 0.5 %
    IE 5.0; WinNT 0.5 %
    IE 5.01; WinNT 0.5 %

    Netscape is second on KF.

I just realized I wasn't quite clear in those percentages - It is 22.68% of Netscape visitors not all of the visitors to my site. About 20% used Netscape so you do the math.

To answer your question . . . here's a partial list of the 68 countries listed:

    Philippines
    India
    China
    Malaysia
    Seychelles
    Egypt
    Latvia
    Indonesia
    Bulgaria
    Lithuania
    United Arab Emirates
    Iceland
    Ecuador
    Morocco
    Croatia
    Sri Lanka
    Cyprus
    Slovenia
    Costa Rica

That's still about 6% of your overall visitors using NS2! That's more than everyone NOT USING IE on my site here at work! Although to be fair, I see Netscape 6/7 making a slight comeback in our stats. They've finally overtaken version 4 as far as visitor percentage.

i get a lot of ns 3-4 versions, even ie3. most times i have at least 50% of site visitors on substandard browsers, a few times it has hit 75%. someone with windows 3.1 shows up quite regularly. when that person hits, i think they are using ns 2 as it shows in the stats whenever i see win 3.1. can you believe that?

    Nope, I'm sure of it.

Those people not going to see the CSS version of my site though. It'll be all plain-like. I don't have netscape 3 to test, though.

It's not hard to get a hold of, but I'd fathom a guess that using the user stylesheet in Opera or something like that in your browser should approximate it close enough for comfort. :-)
