If you have a site that is general (like SitePoint) then you probably don't have much of a chance as there are a whole bunch of already established sites (like SitePoint).

But if you specialize in just one area of webmastering, like scripts of something, then you just may succeed if you're dedicated to the topic. Take Hotscripts, a year ago they started out with a blank DB and now they're one of the hottest scripts sites out there.

I have recently been thinking exactly that d_n... i have been working on a site called mad-onion.com. I was originally intending to set it up as a webmaster portal.

I am seriously considering devoting it solely now to
    a) My scripting projects
    b) My development work
    c) General scripting resources

This is because i dont believe it is worth my while continuing to compile a directory of webmaster-resources, they are like elvis impersonators to bloody many when none would happily suffice

    lol

    Cheers

I often find that sites, especially php wsites have just 2 or three huge progects which they constantly work on seem to get a lot of traffic. So id have to agree with you, but the webmaster support section is overdone.
