MySQL configure problem on redhat linux8.0

I am running RedHat Linux 8.0 and trying to install MySQL version 3.23.55. When running the following command:

    shell>> ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql

it runs fine till I get the following error:

checking for termcap functions library...configure:error: No curses/termcap library found

So I downloaded the ncurses-5.2-28-i386.rpm package and installed it BUT the package was already installed.

Is MySQL looking for this package in a particular directory?

Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks!

you should use the binaries unless you have a reason to compile MySQL.
