ie opacity filter knocking cpu out ?

hi, i am experiencing a weird thing trying to combine ie opacity filter and -moz-opacity to get opacity rollover effects.
I have somewhere else on my page some backgroundcolor mouseover effect (done with css) within a menu.
When i don't use IE filters, everything runs perfectly fine and smooth. But when i use them, sure they works, but the menu is now incredibly slow to change cell background colors.
I oberved my cpu load and clearly noticed a big difference when moving the mouse over the menu depending on using or not the filter, just like if IE could not make its calculations in time for the refresh rate needed.

Has anyone experienced this problem / found a way to solve it ?

    Thanks
    Quentin

What are the specs of the CPU you're using? Alpha blending (the "more technical term" for opacity) is VERY processor-intensive, especially if you have a puny video card (or worse, integrated video ). If your site is most likely going to be viewed by people on <1GHz computers your users may not appreciate the performance hit.
