Restoring the Start menu in Windows 8

I've just got my first Windows 8 system. (I hate it, but that's another story.)

I don't envisage using the new Start screen interface (the one with all the fancy tiles). I'll be working mainly in desktop mode. For that reason, I would like to restore the Start menu.

I've found a couple of utilities that claim to do that:

    1. Win8 StartButton, from Torch Media.

    2. Start8, from Star Dock.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these products?

I can, of course, download the eval versions and try them before commiting myself. But it would be good to know if there are any particular issues or dangers with either of them.

I'd be grateful for any opinijons of either or both the above products.

    Hi Mikl,

    I feel your pain.
I am using Classic Shell for this purpose.
It's free, stable and under active development.
    I can highly recommend it.

Be careful what you select if/when you install it though, as it has a whole host of other features that you might or might not want.

Thanks, Pullo. I'll add that one to my list. And thanks especially for the comment about it installing unwanted features. I hate it when software does that.
