I was looking for search terms to bid on at Go2, and my finger "slipped" when I was typing in the term "what is pcos" It came out "what i pcos".

As it turns out, HUNDREDS of other people's fingers "slipped" - I was able to get the #1 slot for penny!

This got me thinking, so I started looking up other mis-spellings of my main key words, as well as, common "finger slips". The result...another 200 key words - all for a penny each, that totaled several thousand "searches" last month.

I'm sure other people have figured it out, but in case someone else is like me (learning web by trial and error)...I thought this was worth posting...

ps So far I'm pretty impressed with Go2. I only bought 9 terms 3 days ago, and now it is my #2 source of referals - right after Yahoo!.

pps I really hope this post helps...I ask so many questions of everyone else, it feels nice to contribute for a change ;-)

    Ahem,

This is an excellent tactic. One that I had *hoped* those that found it would keep quiet about. But, all good things come to an end! The cat is officially out of the bag to those who did not know about it.

It works. It's cool. Use it.

I didn't think that was much of a secret. Lot's of people use mis spellings to get those visitors. Maybe not on GOTo.com but on other places anyway. Just look at the bottom of this page or go to http://www.sitepiont.com/

Yeah, I was actually kinda joking about keeping it quiet.

I have noticed that there are a lot of misspelled searches that nobody bids on.

One example that has been widely bid on is the word "kamera." It has quite heavy bidding.

I have others that I will keep to myself as they are searched for quite a bit, and I am the only one using them!!

I have thought about this one,

many of times I have gone to type in altavista.com and come out with altavsita.com or something along those lines. I checked to see if the domain was registered and to my suprise it wasn't. I was gonna get it to see how many hits it got, maybe have it pointing to my site or something. In the end I decided against it cause I thought there must be some sort of trademark / copyright rule against it. but what do you think?

I am ALWAYS typing altavista in wrong. It would be fun to register the domain and see how many peopel you get but it might not be worth the trouble if they demand you give it to them!

Ever since meta tags were invented there has always been the marketing technique of including common mispellings of your keywords with the knowledge that some people will make typos.

It isn't really a new trick.

    Kat...

    Keep up the good work...

As you continue your trial and error...

You would continue to encounter those kind of blessing in disguise. And know what?...There's a lot more...:-)

Some you share and some you keep as your ace in your pocket. Just ask any 'search engine specialist', they will tell you about keywords and meta tags. But, they won't tell you how exactly they do it. The good ones has that 'ace' in his/her pocket.

    Good luck.
The questions are tough. The answer is simple. Find someone who's done it. Learn from all his trials, tribulations and successes.
