Title Tag and MetaData on a Wordpress Archive Page

Is it possible to edit the title and description meta-tag on a custom post type archive?
Alternatively, is it possible to turn off the archive all together so I can make a regular page with a custom template?

I've had no success in either area.

Well try using seo plugins like yoast seo or all in one seo. It should allow overwriting the title and meta tag of the page
