    I need Ideas

    Hi ,

I own the domain www.Mening.be ( mening = opinion ) and I want to do something with it.

Some might recall I made a thread about this a few months back, that we would put a forum for all kinds of subjects where people could share their opinion.

But now I'm having doubts about this.
There are way to much "just-forum"-websites lately and I want something extra. I thought about something like Kuro5hin.org would be great but creating and maintaining a website like that is just out of my league.

Maybe some of you might have an idea of what I can do with it besides just forums.

    Thanks in advance.
    Bart.

Why would something like k5 be out of your league? The software it runs on is open-source (Scoop) and the best thing about it is that it works via collaborative filtering. There is very little maintenance involved. If you can get interested visitors to a Scoop site, it will run itself.

I think getting people interested won't be a problem cause

    1) It's a great domain name.
    2) I allready have some great link exchange relations waiting.
    3) There are NO no competitors in Belgium in this web-area.
    4) I'm good

But I had no idea that I could get SCOOP for free, another problem was the maintenance but if you say it allmost runs itself I'm going to check it out right away.

    Thanks a lot Anode !

    Yup, get it here:

    http://scoop.kuro5hin.org/

Many people who haven't thought to register at kuro5hin don't realize that all of the stories are actually written by and voted on by members. You still have to maintain the software, as you would have to maintain any other software package, but there's no need to worry about creating content or approving it; if you have enough members they'll be happy to do it all themselves.

Damn , after hearing it's free I assumed it was PHP but it's not.
Installing SCOOP is not for newbies, you need special PERL modules etc.
I'm not a server admin , if it wasn't for PHPmyAdmin I couldn't even change a thing in my DB , I'm a "simple" webdesigner.
I don't know anything about Perl ( not that I know PHP but at least I can tweak it al little ).
