SitePoint is using the vBulletin board. They do offer a free, scaled down version @ http://www.vbulletin.com I beleive vBulletin is running on PHP and MySQL.

You can find a similar in appearance bulletin board @ http://www.infopop.com/services_ubb/services_ubb.html This board works on PERL.

There are a few new PHP/MySQL boards out there that are free but nowhere near as good as vBulletin

You can find them at http://www.thewebmasterguide.com/sof...ad/boardpower/, http://x-forum.sourceforge.net/ and http://tuincentrum.saxen.net/forum/forumDisplay.php

    Hope this helps

    Here are some cool boards:

http://www.vbulletin.com - Get the light version, it's free.
http://www.ultimatebb.com - There Light version is pretty crappy, dont bother.
http://www.thewebmasterforums.com - This board is pretty good, I recommend it.
http://www.phorum.com - Haven't had much experience with it, but it could get better.

Theres heaps of free boards but most of them, to put it bluntly, are pretty crappy.

go to http://php.resourceindex.com and look under Bulletin boards (I think) and they'll have a list of them.

    Good luck.
    russell.cz.cc - coming soon (I promise!)

Many are remote-hosted! And therfore, banner-based!
I using Phorum (php) at phorum.org, it's simple, but quite good.
